Anyone here or know someone (pref on the North Shore) who is into radio gear and could take a look at some Kenwood PRS units for me ?
Ive got about 8 of them and they were all going but now when i put batteries in, nothing happens. Frown

Tried the original battery packs in the chargers for a while and nothing there either... its weird cause they were going a few years ago then put into dry storage and now nudda....

Theyre : Kenwood UBZ-LF48 (and UBZ-LF11) PRS.

TIA

Have you tried a new battery, or only the old ones? "A few years" could easily spell doom for batteries.

Might be an idea to try and get one of the battery packs repacked (there's a place in Chch that does laptop and other battery repacking...). If it works, get the rest done.

I used to be quite heavily into PRS and a bit of HAM as well as other radio related stuff.

To be honest, because of the age of the radios, the next best thing would be the answers above.

If you cant find any batteries for it, then best to try get the ones you do have repacked.
Failing that, i'd say sell them.

Because most radio places don't really handle PRS (at least not the lower end PRS radios) such as these, its unlikely they'll have batteries just laying about.

PS: are you active on PRS? Curiousity, nothing related to batteries :P

Thanks all..might have to bite the bullet and try battery repacking. Noone will want to buy them without knowing the units work or not...but as I mentioned Im pretty sure they were all going before storing.

Aaroona, no, had a couple of units for when in car convoys and helping out at the Rally of NZ for a couple of years but that was about it. The Kenwoods were given to me after being found in a cupboard gathering dust at a large NZ hotel - apparently they were purchased for staff to communicate between floors etc - they didnt bother to test them first - they found that they were useless between floors - thats what concrete etc does for you :-p

So got about 8 of those, a higher power Uniden unit (with buillt in PRS scanner), some "cheap" DSE type one and one of those tiny little Unidens that my sister gave me a while ago (what she had it for I have no idea).

Its something I probably wouldve got into if I put my mind to it years ago.... if youve been into radio then you probably know/heard of a friend of mine (hes on here as well), Blakjak. He tried hinting to me to get into radio a while ago...

Regularly found idling everywhere including #geekzone ;)

I assume you mean the higher powered one ? Heh, holding onto that one at the moment :)
Its come in handy on the odd occasion. :) Must sit down and find the manual for it again...

ohh, I used to have the UH-050, bloody good radio too.

the 52 had added CTCSS etc.

Pretty good radio also. It was one of the last hand held radios that Uniden made that had user adjustable Squelch (the newer ones either have digitally controlled squelch, or non-adjustable)
