Just a question - just how does NASA expect a TNT bomb to explode without oxygen? did the bomb carry its own O2 supply?

ok perhaps i dont understand astronomy - eg how do stars carry on burning without oxygen and supernovas etc ...

someone explain?

Only a few pixels to the on board camera, but other censors would have got more.
I like it's twitter messages, http://twitter.com/LCROSS_NASA

?And what's this thing coming toward me very fast? So big and flat and round,"
"it needs a big wide sounding name like 'Ow', 'Ownge', 'Round', 'Ground'!?
?That's it! Ground! Ha! I wonder if it'll be friends with me??

Explosives don't need oxygen to work. They contain the oxidizer inside the explosive mix. If this was not the case then the explosive would have to be exposed to the air when would dramatically reduce it's effectiveness and would not ignite quickly enough to explode the first place.

I must admit that I found the lack of a show when LCROSS impacted somewhat disappointing. But it will be interesting to see the results.

I'd go on a Vegan diet but the delivery time from Vega is too long.

Stars don't produce heat & light through combustion like a fire on earth does - It is a nuclear process, not a chemical reaction. The energy comes from the nuclear fusion of atoms into heavier atoms, mostly hydrogen into helium.

I found it thoroughly amusing to see how instantly deflated they were...until they looked at the pixel. Then how utterly transformed they became...so excited!!!
