Hi all,

Im considering offering my services to fix and service peoples PCs as a secondary income for a bit of extra money...

Does anyone out there have any ideas of the best way to go about this or perhaps haver an existing company that requires an extra person for evenings and weekends...

I know its a very saturated market which is why Im not considering it full time, but surely I can get in on a small piece of the action?

I was running my own business doing PC repairs, saturated isnt the word for it :)

Advertise in your local paper, letter drop, advertise in local store Windows etc....

I still have my business officially but have gone back to fulltime work - only advertising I do is word of mouth, website, and listings in - get the odd local job here and there..

Just make sure that what youre charging is fair to yourself... you may keep your costs low but if youre having to travel to the client then there goes any profit into gas etc... I keep my fees low but the customer has to bring the PC to me.

I dont need help, I want to help others - by going around to their house, fixing their computer then charging them money for it...

If I ever need help with anything I come here - geekzone forums - very helpful people here too! :)

You could try differentiating yourself - aim for a different market. Try the retired generation - they use computers etc to stay in touch with their kids.
Give a generous seniors discount, be patient, speak slowly and concisely - it's still new fangled technology to many of them.
Offer your services to Senior-Net, or night schools that teach computing classes. These oldies have an amazing word-of-mouth network, so once you have a good rep, you may find that business will roll in.
