So I got some marketing material from Meridian in the mail. Said to call an 0800 number because "we'd like to make you an offer you can't refuse"

I called the 0800 number and after waiting on hold for 1 minute the person who I spoke to had no idea what I was talking about and said that it was probably because the offer wasn't loaded in their system and to call back in a couple of days!

If this is how badly they do their marketing im sure I don't want to experience their customer service.

That's not good at all!

I do not want to break the forum rules by advertising here, but I work for a company that got a great customer satisfaction rating in the Consumer NZ energy provider survey (which we are eternally grateful for) - check it out some time.

I'll stick with Meridian so long as they remain committed to renewable energy only.

Which is going to be interesting National go ahead and take Tekapo A and B off them and lump them with a sometimes used Diesel fired plant.

I should add that I switched to Powershop about 9 months ago from Meridian.
The beginning of Meridian's offer was:
"It's been nine months since you left Meridian. By now you may be experiencing what we-in-the-trade call the nine month itch. This is a period when many of our former customers end up returning to Meridian for whatever reason. It could be average customer service from your new supplier, a dodgy billing system, prices that aren't what you were led to believe, or any number of reasons."
Made me laugh.

What I don't get is why Meridian is targeting Powershop customers. Isn't Powershop Meridian's plan to lure more customers from other companies?

@DarkShadow

I don't think Meridian are targeting Powershop customers, they are just running a campaign across all customers that they have lost. Likewise, Powershop does not specifically target Meridian customers, but does pick them up as part of campaign and sales activity. Both companies are trying to grow their market share overall.

When is Powershop going to offer their services in more places like Northland?
I signed up to be notified a long time ago but have heard nothing.

@CYaBro @c71931f:

yeah, sorry guys - it takes time to enter into new areas - we need to put in place agreements for lines companies, meter readers and get our wholesale energy sorted. At the moment we are prioritising our resources on ensuring that things are running smoothly before we extend too much further. As much as we'd like to be available everywhere, we don't want to spread ourselves too thin. At this stage we have no immediate plans to enter Northland or Nelson.
