On an email list and the following just came in. Rather interesting and not a bad idea even though I have a detector.

Recently I noticed my radar detector going off some places there were no police cars, along fast stretches of road. I was curious so I stopped at each location and saw that there was a strange device attached to the power pole in each of the 3 locations where I had found this effect.

The locations I found these devices are:

** Buckland Road between Pukekohe and Tuakau, at the junction of Buckland and Tuakau Rd

** Half way along the long straight section of Waiuku road, near Puni

** Also on the Pukekohe-Waiuku road, near Pukeoware school

I'd be interested if anyone else has noticed these devices...

Oohh tempting, but bites tongue

EDIT: Actually I guess its like the cops who drive around with their radars on all the time, drives you nuts if you have a radar detector, but I guess it slows every radar equipped car within 3 kms. Also not a bad idea.

what sort of radar detector do you have if you have like the escort 9500i you cant lock out these false alerts. also what ban does it detect it as. if its k ban you should just turn k ban off. if its ka ban see what frequncy of ka ban it is. the NZ police Use stalker radar on Ka 34.7.
i offen get false alerts from leaky radar detectors like the cobras and the cheap uniden radar detectors but i can tell them apart because they come up as ka 33.4 or ka 35.5

in some states in the USA they have theres litte devices on the radar that give you a K ban false on your radar detector to get you to slow down. these devices look smiler to them

It wasnt my detector, it was from a newsgroup email so I have no idea sorry. I will ask anyway.

My Beltronic radar also went off when I was on both these roads recently. I put it down to an anomaly but it seems there is something there causing it.

Would love to know what they are.

Surely if they are an intentional radiator there will be some details available from the company owning the pole as to what equipment is up it, and possibly the MED may have something if they are a licensed use for some point to point communication.

Otherwise shoot it, and see who comes to fix it.

not yet, they bill was never properly passed through parliament

Plus Beltronics and Valentine have completely hidden(apart from a sensor in the bumper and 2 LEDs in the dash) radar detectors, which I'm sure if they did go illegal, a lot of people would use those

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

Fake or not. I'm happy if it keeps the morons driving at a sensible speed when I am on the road.

And yes, I too have a radar detector in my car :)

I think you will find they are as said, either very good fakers to remind you (A little expensive excercise for the majority without detectors who are oblivious) or more likely transit flow monitoring. Keeping an eye on motorway congestion to help adjust light phasing.

We have similar down here on the waimak bridge (you can clearly see it south side pole - very similar looking to a Stalker Dual head). I noticied it one day after a workmate asked why her detector goes off when crossing the bridge. I suspect along with the billion other traffic cams transit/Christchurch Council are monitoring they can check flows too.

One local station gives out congestion details on a nightly basis where they may request such info.

Off main subject here but I'm also noting more laser alerts on my Beltronic 550 especially on SH1 north shore... coincides with a well positioned traffic car 300-500m later so not likely a coincidence or rogue laser signal. Seems a progression from Ka band technology... similar to UK 7-8 years ago.
