Iv just been to a dairy in Auckland im 18 years old since the beginning of Jan!!!

Had drivers licence and asked for a packet of rollies!!

She checked my licence and said she can not sell smokes because I have to be born in 1991.

I told her im 18 an the date on drivers licence proves that.

She said you have to be 18 ending..

She said she cant sell to me unless i was born in 1991 or under...(her boss said) this was a Bunjarby person..

CAn they do this... By the way i wasnt smoking drugs or drunk lol

Yes they can do that, they are wrong, but they can refuse to sell to anyone they want.

What is a Bunjarby? I assume you mean a Punjabi? And what does that matter?

used to smoke a pack a day, banning would be a good idea!

Sure they bring in money with the tax, but what is the cost in the public health system . . . *stop ranting now*

more than the tax on smoking brings in, another reason to ban smoking , free up the health system .

Actually, that's not true at all. Smokers pay for their healthcare costs fair and square.

I personally think it's a filthy habit and I wouldn't take it up myself, but I totally defend the right of anyone to smoke if that's their personal choice.

What?  Maybe if we all had to buy private insurance that'd be the case.

I'm seriously interested in an explanation for that statement.

how do smokers pay for there healthcare if they didnt smoke they wouldnt need the care, and it would free up more care for the people whose health problems arent self-inflicted.

Smokers may pay the hospital costs but there are many other costs over the years including that a smoking related death isn't easy on anyone in the family.

While it would be nice to have the country smoke-free, banning it would only force the habit underground. The more people connected to underground, the more access to harder drugs. Harder drugs bring more violent crimes, which society would pay more for.

A big step forward is to convince the next generation that smoking is wrong. Convincing those kids looking up at adult smokers, thinking "that's what it means to be a grown up".

Let's ban those cigarette displays at the end of the supermarket isles, behind the store counters, vending machines.
Treat them like video stores treat pornography - out of sight and awkward to buy.
