The only chance we would have, is sharing it with Australia... so the answer is still no :P

I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that Queenstown was thinking about putting a bid in for the Winter Olympics once

Summer Olympics I agree NZ wouldn't handle it, even the commonwealth games now would be pushing it

I highly doubt we could handle the winter Olympics. There was a good discussion on the reasons why on national radio a few weeks back - mainly we do not have the infrastructure to support something like that, in the towns and on the mountains.

We can't even get a decent team of athletes (winter games).

The Russians have the right idea. Sue the pants off the bludgers who have sucked the system - all in the name of sport.

Yeah, we are just way too small to hold the Olympics, especially when you have a billion council members to deal with sorting out resource consents!

No there's not. It is only FIA level 2 certified, you need level 1 to host F1. World superbikes is probably the best we could hope for, MotoGP is probably even not possible.

Olympics, yeah right. I am pretty sure I remember reading it cost Vancouver $4 billion USD to setup the infrastructure and run the games. The government would have to pay for it too, thats more than 2 clyde dams!

We could hold a much cheaper version though, use existing infrastructure instead of building new.

For example the Chunder Mile utilises existing sports fields, dairies and booze outlets.

Last man standing pub crawl uses existing facilities and I think we would see a much bigger uptake in participation and training for those types of Kiwi events.

Replace the hurdles with the 14 fence jump while taking off from the mistress's place when hubby arrives home unexpectantly.

I for one would be prepared to get back into training to give it a crack.

Anyone else got some suggestions?
