I know a lot of major intersections on the North Shore have traffic cameras to monitor traffic flow etc....

Does anyone know if the intersection at Albnay highway/Oteha Valley Road/SH17 have a camera and are they good enough to see number plates ?

Asking as I had a minor incident there this morning (could have been a lot worse if wasnt for good brakes and low speed) where someone rear ended me (minor damage) when I applied the brakes in a hurry due to a "elderly" lady driving through a red light instead of giving way... I stopped and unfortuntely the young guy behind me didnt....

"Legally" the guy who hit me is in the wrong as such, but if it wasnt for the stupid lady running the red (and not stopping, although she probably didnt realise I had been hit) it wouldnt have happened.... feel sorry for him as he seemed a bit shaken up about it and was probably only 17 (and insured thankfully).

But if can get some footage of the dozy lady running the red and her rego maybe things might go a bit differently for the young guy (but doubt it due to the whole safe following distance etc).........

Not much point from the perspective of saving the guy who hit you, if anything the lady would be done for running the red, but the teenager would still be done for following too close - dont worry about it; he will learn not to follow so close, I know you feel bad for him but this incident is exactly why there is a law for following too close.

Good to hear it's getting sorted without any issue..

Just an unfortunate incident (Not going to say accident, since SOMEONE was at fault [Oh yes, quote from Hot Fuzz!]).

I've had three nose-to-tail accidents in my driving life, all not my fault - my understanding is regardless of the situation, if you fail to stop in time, you are at fault, regardless of what the traffic ahead is doing - the idea being you should always maintain a safe stopping distance.

However, I'm not a cop, so anyone who knows better feel free to prove me wrong Smile

Nates got it right, there is nothing you can do about it for the guy.
If the police investigated it, they would probably end up charging both the guy behind you and the old lady. Solong as you two were the only ones involved, and it was a non-injury accident then you should be fine, and there is no need to report it.

Yep, as my son found out the hard way -- you have to allow stopping distance, no matter what the car / driver in front does. There maybe a few exceptions.

However, I am curious as to what happens when you are in a lane of semi-stopped traffic, and someone jumps into your lane with barely inches between cars, but then that person has to stop suddenly because the traffic queue has suddenly stopped, and you rear-end that car that has just jumped into your lane with no or minimal gaps.

For those of you in Auckland, think traffic coming over the harbour bridge to go over the Victoria Park Viaduct, and you get w@nker drivers who use the city lanes to get nearly to the viaduct and then barge in, expecting to be let in. Also, I guess the same happens on city-bound on the Nor-Western motorway for those heading to the Southbound motorway link.

My thoughts are no longer my own and is probably representative of our media-controlled government

Grrrr...

Surely, it's their fault for dangerous change of lanes?

Is it ? I would really like to hear from someone who has had this happen to them, otherwise it's all just conjecture. Judging by the amount of glass and plastic fragments along this stretch, it would a fairly regular occurrence

For the damage it seems hell of lot TBH.....

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=210421&id=737740574&l=783839d19e

But apparently the paint is the bulk of the cost and no guarantee theres not more damage behind the bumper...dont think there will be as it was a low speed impact....
