I thought I'd just let everyone know about Privacy Awareness Week (May 2 - May 8) which is run by the Asia-Pacific Privacy Authorities (which includes the NZ Privacy Commissioner's Office).

http://www.privacyawarenessweek.org/index.html

On their website, you can take a privacy awareness test in the "ID Theft Tool" section, which will tell you if you're doing anything that will compromise your privacy or identity.

I scored 80% in the Computer category and I believe that two of the "correct" answers contradict themselves. The third statement is "I accept all updates for software on my computer". I selected No, because I like to verify software rather than install everything willy-nilly. The site marked that as a "wrong" answer.

The next statement is "I only download software updates when it is legitimate". I selected Yes, and the site was happy with that. Don't those two statements almost cancel each other out? How can you get a perfect score?

Technology is slowly taking over our lives and we really need to appreciate the dangers of personal identity theft.
