Just did a search (not the one in the screenshot) and was shocked with a new layout for search results. Wasn't like this about 2 hours ago for me...anyone else seeing this? Thoughts?

I've had the new layout for about a month on my work computer. I only got the new layout at home last night. Both times I'm logged in with my google account.

There's an Article on news.com about the new layout.

I really like it, I think it's clearer and easier to navigate.

As always though, I'm sure there's lots of people who don't like the new layout.

I still hate the "New" Facebook layout, though it's 6 months old now.

I hate you.

Still have the old layout here, but I'm sure the new one will turn up soon enough.

They often do A/B testing to see how users react to different changes.

Personally I don't like the new layout.

I think one of the reasons why Google has been such a success is because of the simplicity and to the point search. I like it, but if they keep on adding it will start to look like Yahoo...

Well many people who used google search didn't even notice you could search for images only because it was a small link at the top left.

Making the search "types" more prominent is a decent change.

However I don't like how they have "page from [country] in the left side, it should be more prominent and under the search textbox/button.

Image search is one of the more powerful parts of Google I use almost daily. Some people do not bother to read or want to have too much info, I think it is because they want to stay in the comfort zone... Just look @ the iFad, simple is a winner.

With this new look, to get pages from NZ (and presumably from any other country than the good ol' US of A) you have to do the search and then redo it by clicking on the "pages from NZ" bit in sidebar. I wish one could set the default to NZ or whichever country and leave it.

You can do that by typing your search string and then putting site:.nz at the end, then you'll only return sites that end in .nz

You don't have to do anything. If you are in New Zealand and type "www.google.com" you will automatically be redirected to "www.google.co.nz". If you have used the link "Go to google.com" before (at the bottom of the pages) then you don't get redirected.

Don't blame Google. Check your system.

Google still needs to center the results page. Still looks horrible being at the left side.

The results from google.co.nz are different depending on whether you select(ed) "google search", or "Pages from NZ".

With the "old" version of google, if you wanted pages from NZ it was a radio button click and one search.  Now it is a search and then another search.

So nothing to do with checking my system; merely a wish that we could choose which option we wanted as a default.

That new layout is a disaster!

Every search has a large left sidebar wasting space. And they've changed the buttons and input boxes to look like a baby's toy! They've enlarged the font size of our search item - we already know that! Most of what is in the sidebar was at the top anyway!

I started using Google in 1999 or 2000, because of its simplicity in design. Now they've gone and cluttered up the results page with options that will only be used in about 1% of searches!

If I wanted a sidebar, I'd use Bing. If I wanted clutter, I'd use Yahoo!

A temporary fix is to change your homepage to http://www.google.co.nz/webhp?hl=all . (I say temporary because Google will likely put an end to this page)

I've also changed my default search box to Dogpile, as this gets Google results anyway, but has normal looking buttons, and no annoying sidebar.
