Howdy.

If I see say a property advertised in the newspaper for sale, could I post the address of it on line and solicit comments from the public? i.e. what do others think if it, or what it might be worth?

I would argue "yes" because they have put it in the public domain.

Could I quote say the trade me ref, or real estate agents ID in the post?

Nothing illegal but I wouldn't want my house being discussed on a forum to be honest.

IF you aren't making money from it and it is genuinely for the purpose of discourse / discussion

THEN I can't see any legal problems with re-typing the information or providing a web link to it.

There is a chance that someone will contact the seller, and tell them that the house is up for discussion. I'm the type of person to do that, because I think that if someone's possessions are being discussed, the owner has a right to know about it.

You could always ask the seller whether they mind the house being discussed (I'd bet on 90% saying "yes").

If you're considering this as a commercial website, I don't think it would fly, because not many people would know that the website existed (unless you spent a couple of million advertising it), and you'd end up with subscribers with no one else to discuss things with.

Interesting... If your house is for sale, you should expect it to be talked about........

If it isnt, I agree it would be 'rude' to say the least to post it anywhere.

I would assume that if you have listed the address/house in the paper, where anyone can see it, then online wouldn't be much of an issue.

But to be honest, I don't see it being any different to someone discussing say, a company they saw on the main street of Auckland and asking for peoples opinions on it (online).

Maybe you don't agree, but thats how I see it.

Surely if the house was for sale, you would want people to discuss it on a forum. I know I would. Its basically free advertising.

Now, if it wasn't for sale, yeah, I could see the issue. But I'm sure the OP is talking about houses for sale.
