I have decided to make the move to the Wellington IT pond. However, I am now going through the joys of dealing with the Wellington employment agencies and I can say it has not been the most enjoyable experience to date.

Does anyone have recommendations for agencies? Either for or against?

One agency appears to have led me down a path on a role that they do not appear to be officially representing the organisation for (I discovered the employer had their own add in place as well). A friend has told me it is common practice for them to read listings and then create their own listing for the role and try and refer people to the organisation. Has anybody experienced this?

Another agency is listing roles they do not actually have available. All this is really wasting a lot of my time and becoming increasingly frustrating.

Thanks

When I was working in retail, I would get calls from agencies saying they had people waiting to be interviewed, and if they could send them to me. 99% were muppets, they did not suit what we were advertising, some agencies would end up sending no one, others who got rejected were apparently told by the agency to 'just turn up'.

Unfortunately some agencies are just out there to get commission, and they don't care how they get it.

I can't help you find a job, but you are not alone in being dicked around.

One agency I would recommend is 920, my girlfriend is currently on her 2nd job contracting through them.

Being on the receiving side of recruiters, we were burned once by a useless contractor, and now I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole.

I had great experiences with Duncan & Ryan but haven't dealt with them as Talent2 yet.

Just an update.

I finally managed to contact the organisation with the role I was interested in and explain what had happened with the employment agency. They confirmed they were not dealing with any agencies, the good news is they have asked me to submit an application even though the role had closed off.

So, to the employment agencies that do this .... shame on you!!

+ 1

The best success I had though was to use the local paper.
