The white treatment of the aborigines was abhorrent until quite recently. Slowly getting better, but there is still plenty of entrenched racism.

I'm not 100% sure where your are located, but much the same as the ethnic cleansing that was occurring in the baltic states and ex Yugoslavia not to long ago.

There is plenty information on the web. Try googling aborigines and tasmania :-)
