We have a Fisher and Paykel GW703-K with an OOB Switch Fault

I've diagnosed an OOB (out of balance) switch fault with a GW703-K (part of the GWL11 family) washing machine from the error code 00101011. I've checked the switch and it moves freely and clicks when pushed in. I've checked the wiring and it appears to be plugged in. I have not as of yet removed the switch to check it closer (I have also not checked the wiring with a multi-metre, thats the mornings task). The machine is also level and the bias spring appears fine.

Would this be an issue that is best resolved with a new OOB switch or is it an issue with the Motor Controller Module? Does anyone have any other ideas as to what the issue could be?

The better half would rather go out and purchase a new machine but myself, being a typical male, would much rather spend countless hours and as little as possible fixing the machine we have Laughing.

Cheers

Most likely the switch is corroded - fairly common fault. Check with a multimeter, you'll probably find that it is either permanently open or closed circuit.

Once you've confirmed this take it to your local F&P parts place - in Auckland this is at the main F&P site in East Tamaki. Also make sure you make a note of the product serial number info.

Replacing the switch is very easy and from memory the replacement part is not expensive so worth doing it yourself. Power the machine off first and unplug from the wall - very, very important as there are some real nasty voltages floating around under the covers! If you haven't figured it out already just unscrew the 2 screws at the back of the top part of the machine and lift off the cover.

Then unscrew the 1 screw that holds the motor controller down and the oob switch will be located to your right underneath it. Carefully unplug the switch and test - if bad source a replacement, put everything back how you found it and job done!

Not impossible that it is a fault with the motor controller, but unlikely, you'll probably note that where the switch sits moisture can accumulate. The replacement switches are a totally sealed part which stops this from happening again.

Cheers Antzzz, I've arranged for a replacement switch from Saxon's in Chch so if the current one fails a multimeter test I'll pick that up today and give it a shot.

It was the switch, its passing a current sometimes but not other times. There was evidence of corrosion around the plugs as well. Replacement ordered, cheers for your help.
