I have never had a blog. Never needed to. Never had a reason to.

But now I have an actual reason to have a blog. It's because I want to put a few thoughts in one place. and online because the place where I might be will be drastically different to where I am now.

I am wondering what people who may have had a much better experience of blogs think. I would like someting where I can write each day but also categorise those entries into different 'tabs' or 'folders'.

I would like something where there is a main page, and tabs on the side. do i have to set up an actual website for this or can I make a blog that will do the same thing?

I am not going to sign up to umpteen number of different sites to find what i want, so if you have any advice about a good site to use, please let me know. If you use blogs, give me a link and I'll check out yours.

I'm after something kind of specific for a long term blog, it doesn't have to be free (but that would be nice).

cheers in advance for any help :)

Wordpress.org. You are probably best to host it yourself under your own domain. YOu can use the free hosted wordpress.com website, but if you host it yourself, you don't have to put up with the advertising they put on it. Some webhosts have autoinstallers that will automatically install wordpress for you into your hosting account.

I can find popular blogsites by doing a google search, but thanks for your input.

I just dont want to sign up for a whole lot of sites that wont let me do what i want to. I'm wanting something where i can categorise each post - and there may be two or three a day - into different categories. and so that there are tabs on the side (or the top) where someone could click and go just to those posts.

Say if my blog was called "numbers" and i posted diefferent thing about numbers every day. I would want people to be able to see all the posts, but i would also want people to be able to click on tabs to define these posts by "odd" "even" or "prime" etc, because those are the subcategories I have put those posts in.

I admit, what i want is hard to describe, I might be better off just getting a website for this, but im not making money off it, so a blog seems the right way.

Wordpress will do this, no sweat.

We run a dozen wordpress installs, unless you have the expertise to do this, I would highly recommend going with Wordpress, and get the advanced features if you want to turn off ads.

Wordpress is a very powerful platform, and with all the plugins that are available, you can get it to do just about anything.

Should be fine, do you have an iPad to test with?
