I keep receiving emails from the Google team stating:

"Congratulations on creating your brand new Gmail address,
petter.24586600@gmail.com.
Please keep this email for your records, as it contains an
important verification code that you may need should you ever
encounter problems or forget your password.

You can login to your account at http://mail.google.com/

Enjoy!

The Gmail Team

Verification code: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (blanked)

If you didn't create this Gmail address and don't recognize this email,
please visit: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=62400 "

The email address being created is different each time but i keep receiving these notifications.

At first, i was ignoring them but now they are getting annoying.... anyone know why this is happening? Could it be someone attempting to gain access to my account somehow? Of course I haven't been validating them.

"This confirmation message is not an indication that your address has been compromised in any way. If you receive a confirmation message from Google regarding a new Gmail address that you did not create, you can safely disregard the message."

I guess someone is entering your email address in the "Recovery email" field on the 'create an account' page, so you get the confirmation email when they hit the 'create my account' button. Not sure you can do anything to stop this happening.

First thing I would do is change your email password. It may be that your account is not compromised but would be worth being on the safe side anyway.
You did not mention but is your actual email address a gmail account or ISP email?
It may be that someone is intercepting or trying to intercept your emails so that they can get the confirmation code. If the messages keep coming it might be time to contact whoever your email is with and see what they can do (if anything).
