I've got a concert tonight at Vector Arena (and Metallica next week :-D), and am looking at the best parking options. I don't know the CBD that well, and am looking for a nice balance of convenience and price.

Last time I attended an event there, I was lucky enough to secure a park just behind VA in a little council car park, which cost only $6. This car park only had a handful of parks though, so I have my doubts that I'd be so lucky with a larger scale event like the concerts I'll be attending.

What time do you want to get there?  If it's early-ish, there are plenty of free parks on the street at the bottom of Parnell.  I go to shows there all the time and I've never paid for parking.  It's only about a 5 or 10 minute walk at the most.

Its my daughters first gig (taking her to Paramore), so she's dead keen to get the whole concert experience (which means not missing the two support acts). Gates open @7PM, so I'm looking to arrive sometime around then (or perhaps a little earlier so we can get a bite to eat somewhere else).

Then you should be good I reckon. We usually get there around 6 (some of it is paid parking until 6 so that helps) and there's heaps of parks. It's only a short walk up to Parnell to get some dinner or something.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll give that a go. Any particular street to aim for?

I don't know the names of them.  There's a bunch down there.  If you're eating in Parnell, then it doesn't matter where you aprk since you'll be walking double the distance between Parnell and Vector regardless.  If not, then just park as close to the bottom of Parnell as you can/want.  I don't think you'll have a problem.

Anzac Ave is also another option. There are even free parks on Beach Rd after 6pm but you have to be quick.

I don't mean to gatecrash the thread, but can anyone recommend a P5 or P10 for picking up cinema tickets at Event in Queen Street?

From my experience. Go by training if you have a station near you.. Parking is the pits and the parking Nazis will be out in force.

This Park for free in Orakei train station and catch a 5 min train straight to Britomart. Cheap and worry free

Kinda depends what side you're coming from but it;s what I've used before

I thought most/all of the parking spots along Queen St were P10?

So how did you get on dclegg?
Where did you end up parking? And did you have to pay?
We're going to Metallica on Wednesday and coming from Whangarei so any help would be great.

I ended up getting lucky, and secured a park behind Vector Arena in a small council car park. It cost $6 for 12 hours parking, and is the same one I parked in last time I went to Vector Arena. Its right behind Vector Arena, on the corner of Beach Road and Te Taou Crescent

It took a bit of luck though, as there are bugger all parks there. I'm hoping I get just as lucky on Wednesday too. See ya at Metallica! \m/
