I personally wear an Omega Seamaster (have it for about 14 years now), but always thought the Casio G-Shock were quite cool. I got a press release today and decided to post here for any other "watch geeks":

After making its way around the globe, Casio is excited to announce the G-Shock SHOCK THE WORLD tour is touching down in New Zealand. On October 21st the worlds of media, technology, fashion and music will descend on Auckland in a celebration of the iconic Casio G-Shock brand.

SHOCK THE WORLD began in 2008 to celebrate G-Shock’s 25th anniversary and has snowballed into a world tour that has sent shock waves through more than 12 cities globally with performances from Kanye West and Ke$ha in New York, Pixie Lott in London and Lady Sovereign in Berlin. Shock The World is always one of the most anticipated street culture events and now it’s time to turn it on in Auckland.

SHOCK THE WORLD is renowned for hosting the biggest names on the planet and the Auckland event will see US hip hop producer and DJ Just Blaze in attendance playing a set for the first time in New Zealand. Having worked with almost every heavyweight in the US hip-hop fraternity, Just Blaze is best known for his work with Jay-Z, Kanye West, The Game and Eminem. He’ll be joined by local band-de-jour Computers Want Me Dead and Casio G-Shock ambassador, David Dallas.

SHOCK THE WORLD Auckland will see a local space transformed into an inspiring showcase of the latest Casio G-Shock timepieces, plus limited edition and collaborative pieces as well as the original G-Shock watch, first designed in 1983. Local musicians and artists will showcase their talent alongside special guests including the “Father of G-Shock,” Kikuo Ibe, who created the legendary “shock-resistant” timepiece. Mr Ibe has been with the company for 34 years and has been instrumental in the commercial success of the brand.

G-Shock boasts an international who’s-who of collaborators and ambassadors including Wu-Tang Clan’s Redman, New York bloggers Dee & Ricky and LA Laker Lamar Odom, so it’s no surprise the iconic brand is collaborating with some of New Zealand’s finest talent. Huffer and QUBIC store will each create a unique G-Shock timepiece while street artist & designer, Misery will join forces with Baby G who in turn, has just signed up pop songstress Ke$ha as its latest ambassador. The local series of limited edition G-Shock watches will be unveiled at SHOCK THE WORLD Auckland.

“It’s exciting for an event like this to make it to New Zealand. We have so many amazing artists and musicians in New Zealand and Shock the World can put their talents on show in a unique way for the world to see. It is also a great opportunity to meet Mr Kikuo Ibe, the inventor of G-Shock, and view rare G-Shock models normally reserved for collectors eyes only,” says Harley Anderson, Product Manager – Casio Timepiece.

That's a bit of a weird co-incidence! I too have an Omega Seamaster as my principle watch, and have had it for something like 20 years.
I also have a Casio G-Shock which I wear for rough work - gardening, painting etc.

kind regards Andrew TD

And I too have an Omega Seamaster vintage 1987 as my daily watch and a casio g-shock that sailed 30,000km with me! Both great watches in their own and very different ways.

Shan't be going anywhere near Shock the world though.

Lorus (Seiko) Kinetic - 9 years old on saturday. Dad wears an Omega I believe, and I think its quite old.

I plan to buy a watch with H3 Tritium off EBay, but unsure whether brands like "UZI" or "Smith and Wesson" are resonable/acceptable quality?

G-Shock are awesome. I have had mine for for about 11 years. It has had a few cosmetic changes but been on the wrist 24x7 through some pretty rough conditions. It is on standby at the moment.

Currently have a Polar RS800CX, which for a geek training for a triathlon is a pretty awesome bit of gear.

Thats interesting, I had a Tritium based watch back in 1978, it got destroyed when my wrist got caught between the bumper jack and my Valiant Ranger, those were the days.

I have a Casio someting-or-other that, while we lived in the UK, used to auto-sync every night to a signal that was given out there.

Sadly, here, that doesn't work. I wish it did.

Wow, I had no idea that they had been around so long. So how bright are they? I've never seen one, and pictures make out like they are really bright, but I suspect the reality is they are relatively dim compared to say a normal glow in dark watch face after just being under light source?
