hey guys,
im working on reviving my eee pc. having trouble with usb boot and all that rubbish, so to make it easy, im thinking should i purchase this?

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Computers/External-storage/External-hard-drives/auction-326111704.htm

thats the link.

im planning to use my dvd drive in my desktop, to install windows xp (using xp's install dvd) onto my eee pc.

the eee pc has no drive, so thats why id plug the usb into the eee.

for my dvd drive, i can plug the sata (data) cable in , to transfer data from the dvd drive to the eee pc via the usb port.

however none of my drives are ide. the all require sata power.

SO IM WONDERING, will this cable work, if i power it via sata power through the cable in my desktop (what its hooked up to now) and just plug in the sata cable to transfer the data to the eee pc.?

thanks guys
have a good labour weekend!!!!

I have had 2 USB to sata adapters, one would work with optical drives, one would not.

Neither looked like that one so I cant tell you if it will work for optical, also it has pata plugs which neither I tried had.

Thanks for your replies, as stated above , I'll turn my desktop pc on and power the DVD drive from there. Just redirecting the sata to the Eee pc.
I have tried Linux USB boot ... See my thread in "Linux"
