I have a dead Sony VPL-W400Q Projector. Dead lamp - well mostly dead. Only fires up once in a blue moon, provided the moon phase and sunspot activity are in alignment. Lamps are no longer available, and if they are, in excess of US$500.

Is there anything useful inside these things ? Can the LCD panels be pressed into any use ? Optics ?

Otherwise, it's going on to TM "as-is", maybe someone else has one and can be used for spares.

This person has been trying to sell a lamp on TradeMe:

Maybe they will relist??

Heh, typical. I had this projector for quite a few years, and when the lamp started fizzing out, I hunted high and low for a reasonably priced replacement lamp, both here and OS. If you could find them, they were around $400US - seems that they were being hoarded :-). Now that most owners ( like me) have upgraded to a better light canon, there now seems to be a reasonable supply of these lamps as those "hoarders" are now trying to off-load them :-)

Oh well, now that it seems lamps are a bit more generally available, it will make this aged light pop-gun a bit of a better proposition to sell :-)
