Yesterday I was closing one of my Trade Me sales and found some interesting stuff in my profile:

- I joined Trade Me back in Sep 2000.
- My user number has five digits only, just a little bit under 20,700.
- Trade Me statements only lists the last 500 transactions and since I don't deal much on the site I only have 420 transactions, which mean I can see my first transaction
- My first Trade Me transaction was "New Account - $5 free credit"

When did you join Trade Me?

We joined in February 2005. We returned back from 12 years in Australia at the end of 2004, otherwise we probably would've joined sooner. We were very surprised (and quite proud too) to see that a local auction site appeared to be much more popular than eBay (which is where most Aussies turned to when we were there).

We're constantly amazed at what people are willing to buy on TradeMe, and as a result we rarely throw anything out anymore and instead try our luck on TM first. Our best success story has to be an old leather couch we were replacing. The (cheap) leather was in pretty good nick, but the material that the cushions sat on was ripped and required replacing. We were quoted $125 for a refuse collection firm to come and remove it, but instead we sold it for $121. And the lady that won the auction was ecstatic when she saw it. She said she was purchasing it on behalf of her father, but after seeing it was contemplating keeping it for herself. And we thought it was a pile of crap. :-D

August-2000 - 18000

First transaction is $5 "A small thank-you from Trade Me" in September 2000 when they made the site Paid.
I'd forgotten it used to be free.

June 2003 for my personal account. I'd previously used my Dad's account which would've been made in 2001 at the latest.

Edit: Dad's was December 1999 with a 26xx member number.

I was just looking on Wikipedia for the launch date, and it says March 1999. But then it says that there were 3500 members by August, which doesn't seem to mesh with my Dad's 26xx member number in December. Hmm.
