I note that on an iPhone, m.stuff.co.nz now redirects to i.stuff.co.nz, with an enhanced content over the text only previously provided. However, on my Windows Mobile 6.5 device using Opera, m.stuff.co.nz is now redirecting to the main www site. There is no mention of any on their web site at http://www.stuff.co.nz/about-stuff/2715191/Mobile where they comment on the m.stuff.co.nz site.

What are people seeing on other mobile devices?

Definitely has changed. Used Opera Mini on my 5800. Looks like they have;
a lite site - m.stuff.co.nz
a smartphone site - i.stuff.co.nz
the full site

Changed for my iPod Touch. I like the new one better.

NZ Herald mobile still sucks, it's two taps to reach a story, and the first tap takes 0.5 - 2 seconds for the dynamic content to load.

Yes, I tried it on a couple of mobile devices and got the full site instead.

I guess they could ask for the code we use here on Geekzone to identify mobile clients...

Yep i.stuff looks great on my iPhone 4. I always used m.stuff before this anyway.

I noticed the changes to m.stuff site this morning (Eken tab), which I thought were an improvement, adding the headlines under the topic headings. So after rading this I checked again. Now on my Magic I'm redirected to i.stuff, which I'm not happy about, but the Eken still loads the m.stuff site.

Personally I prefer stuff to Herald, partly because m.stuff didn't include any pictures, and partly because I felt the content was more precise.

If I don't have an iphone why should I be redirected to i.stuff????

I use NZ Newspapers app for android and was given a choice of the full site or the I site at the top. It uses m as default. Even the m site looked different though. Quite a bit better! No pics which suits me fine at work.

Following my original post, I contacted Stuff via their web site and received the following reply:

Sorry to hear you are having issues with accessing the mobile site.

You are correct that we have made some changes overnight, including:

* the addition of a new smartphone focused site i.stuff.co.nz for iphones and androids
* a auto detection scheme which redirects handsets to the best fit site for their phone

Unfortunately it appears that your handset is not currently in our database of phones.

We are building the ability to manually add in handsets that aren't in our database, I will supply you with a url to visit which can gather us the necessary information about your handset to add it to our list.

Ill be back in touch shortly with that url to visit.

In the meantime if you would like manually force your phone to visit the m.stuff website you can visit the following url on the full site:

http://www.stuff.co.nz/about-stuff/2715191/Mobile

And click on the 'm.stuff.co.nz' url mentioned in the 2nd paragraph of the story, let me know if you have any issues with doing this.?

However, the content at that link has changed during the day and there is no "URL in the second paragraph of the story".

I have discovered though that if I use IE, rather than Opera, on my HTC Touch to go to m.stuff.co.nz, then instead of being redirected to the full site, I get redirected instead to i.stuff.co.nz, but with an option to "View the Light Site", which when chosen, goes to m.stuff.co.nz, with text based content (almost - there is now an advertisement graphic to "Meet someone special". I am sure there was no advertising previously).

Hopefully they will send thru that URL shortly.

you can click on the banner at the top to go to the other versions of the site. Mine defaulted to m.stuff, but I just changed to i.stuff and bookmarked it.
