A while ago mum brought a Kindle from Amazon and it arrived from UPS without a hitch, couple of days later she ordered the Kindle power adapter for the wall. And last week she ordered the red leather cover for the Kindle from Amazon also, and it too was shipped via UPS. It arrived at the door today at about 8 while I was still asleep but managed to sign the little screen and went back to bed. Woke up much later and looked at the box and it had been opened already. I thought it might have been customs but remembered when my laptop arrived from overseas via HP it had been opened by customs and had read security tape around it, this tape on the box was just your standard transparent tape, so I called UPS.

The lady I spoke to told me to open the box and see if anything was missing and nothing was, but the cover was upside down (I've watched boxing videos so I know how it looks, lol) and she said "if nothing is missing sir then we cant do anything for you." So I told her to lodge a complaint for me, because her staff shouldn't be opening customers packages, and she said "well it could have been customs" then I told her it was transparent tape and she said "ok well customs usually uses red tape, it could have been a damaged box and we just resealed it" but it wasn't damaged accidentally unless a worker just dropped a pair of open scissors on to the box and cut it badly then ok.

The fact it was just the case is probably why nothing was missing. If it was the Kindle itself then there might have been a different story. Why don't they take this more seriously? They shouldn't be opening peoples box's.

I even read this this morning before I saw our package: http://gizmodo.com/5713709/how-a-man-caught-ups-tampering-with-his-package

Unless something's damaged or lost I don't see the problem. Like they said they might be doing you a favor sealing a poorly packaged box, or customs may have done it.

Like I said, the box comes from Amazon and their boxes are impossible to open accidentally. And you can clearly see scissor cuts on the front of the box. Customs would have put red tape on the box too like they did with my laptop, so I know its not them. It's not the point that somethings not missing, but the fact they opened the box thats not theirs is just wrong. Would you say the same if say... you had someone house sit for you while you were away and told them not to go into your bedroom, you find out they went into your bedroom and went through your stuff, but nothing was missing?
