I'm looking for some simple lunch ideas, A) due to the fact that I want to lose a few kilos and B) getting sick of pies, hence A)  Can't eat fruit or yoghurt so they are out, but would like something that is reasonably filling.

I don't eat sandwiches or salads, can't stand them, so I have leftovers every day. I cook for two each night and take the second portion to work. As long as you're cooking healthy meals, it's a nice filling and healthy lunch, and it never gets boring, even though you're repeating a meal, you're still not eating the same thing twice in one day.

The quality of the bread makes the biggest difference in the boredom factor. Anything you can get from a supermarket is hopeless. Try Pandoro's five grain. And, while you are there - try their salads and sandwiches, and replicate them at home.

oh yeah! really easy to make too. the japanese sushi vinegar is key to the right taste, sushi rice is required.

can often get 100 nori sheets for $12.50 at korean super markets.

Not if you're trying to lose a little weight...

Can't eat fruit? Or won't? Dairy I can understand if you are intolerant.
I've been losing weight over last few months, quite successfully. But fruit has been an important part of keeping me feeling full.

Lunch for me is one sandwich, or roll. My favourite is a chibata (sp?) style roll, (maybe it's sour dough?).
I usually buy from the deli section some roast beef, or pastrami or ham, this usually does three days lunches.
I stuff my rolls and sandwiches with LOTS of lettuce, tomatoes. Just a couple THIN slices of cheese, and LOTS or american mustard. I've also taken to having lots of tabasco sauce on them as well, I find spicy food fills me up more, or at least it feels like it does. Perhaps it's a bit boring, but suck it up, I say, if you want to lose some weight.

I also eat a banana and an apple (at around 9, and 10:30) each day. (I usually skip breakfast). Large coffee on way to work in travel mug.

No snacks. My employer has a cafe on premises, I have not patronized it in any way in months. This has been quite hard, tempting smells, nice snacks and slices for afternoon tea. Avoid.

If the aim is to lose weight, then the other half of the equation is exercise. I'm sorry, this is unavoidable :).
I'm pretty lucky and am able to go for a hard walk at lunch time ( I get an hour) every day. Quick change into walking gear, and walk as fast as you can for an hour. After about 6 dedicated weeks I'm up to 6.5 km within the hour, with about the last 1km being a jog.

OK long post coming to an end, this is a very relevant topic to me at the moment!
I have also been using WeightBot (iOS) which has been very helpful as you get excellent graphs as to your progress, and can review past stats.

Cheers,
Joseph.

I tried hard with exercise to lose 5-7 kg and got nowhere for a few months. I finally managed to kick my one-50g-bar-of-chocolate-a-day habit (switching to fruit) and it all started to happen pretty quick. Amazing difference just for one chocolate bar a day...

If like most the population you tend to eat a lot of cheap high carb food, well, stop it, especially starches, you might as well be spooning large quantities of sugar into your mouth, same difference.

Rice (white in particular). Potato. Pasta. Bread (particularly white). Banana. Massive starch content.

A nice sandwich doesn't need to involve bread, iceberg lettuce makes a quite convenient wrapper; ham mustard and cheese doesn't need to involve bread either; good quality sausages cold or hot, between 4 and 5g of carb/each - cheap sausages massively more because they are bulked with flour instead of, you know, actual meat. Chicken breasts can be sliced horizontally and grilled with your seasoning of choice, then frozen for microwave lunching as you wish.

Linseed (called flax in the states) and sunflower seed, ground fresh into a slightly coarse flour (I use a stick blender in a mug), shredded coconut, a bit of oil, an egg, artificial sweetener, cocoa powder, baking powder, almond essence, and a little water, mix well together (it will be a wet, sloppy mixture) in a mug and microwave for 2 or 3 minutes, it will rise in the microwave hugely and makes a great muffin type deal, really does, and carb is negligible (I'm a type 1 diabetic, trust me, I would KNOW if there was useful carb in this). I usually eat hot straight from the microwave. Experiment with ingredient and flavour of course!

Similarly, linseed and sunflower seed ground into flour, add oil, egg, grated cheese, salt, black pepper, chilli flakes, mustard, basically whatever you think will work to spice it up a bit, mix into a fairly thick and spreadable mix, spread onto greaseproof paper (baking paper) on a baking tray (I usually roll it out between two pieces of greaseproof paper), use a knife to pre-cut it, and bake until you think it's done. Great "cheese straw" type snack, and again, negligible carb.

I've done the same to make "crackers" with sesame seed. Or salt and vinegar. Or... basically linseed+sunflower seed+oil+egg+imagination can produce quite a variety of negligible sweet or savoury snacks.

TIP: Do NOT buy linseed pre-ground, it goes bad quick and tastes awful, really really bad, just horrible, don't do it! Grind as needed, only takes a few seconds with a stick blender, or whatever you want.

I lost 15kg in 2010 by using this simple guide.
- minimise sugar
- eat fruit and fibre
- do at least an hour exercise 4 times a week.
- resist the snacks at night
- read the nutrition info. Avoid anything >10% saturated fat.
- get a goal weight

So, I cut coffees down to 2 a day. No more sugar on my cereal, open a can of fruit salad and store in the fridge.
I joined local squash club and played as often as I could, even though I wasn't any good.

Lost 1kg every 2 weeks.

ieatservers: Try Subway.

It always amuses me when people go into Subway thinking that they're ordering a healthy lunch, and they end up ordering it with salt, sauce, and a fizzy drink.
