I am off to Bali next week for a few days attending the BlackBerry DevCon Asia 2011, and wondered if anyone has a recommendation for a local mobile data prepay option?

We've just been to Indo recently - my brother, Zocster, can give you recommendations. What phone are you taking? Support over there can be a pain unless you have a fairly common handset model. I couldn't get my HTC Desire going while I was over there - nobody could help me either since Android is pretty much non-existent there.

Windows Mobile and Windows Phone 7... Really need to know which operator has a good prepay mobile data plan.

What do you mean by "good"? You're going to Bali, a very touristy place - coverage should be great unless you go to remote jungles. Price-wise? Heck, it's disgustingly cheap over there!

Not sure what support for Windows phones will be like over there - I imagine Windows Mobile is probably okay, but no idea if people there will know how to configure APN for WP7...

By "good" I meant exactly what I wrote "good prepay mobile data plan". A well priced prepay mobile data plan...

As for configuration, just really need the APN - basically that's all is needed to configure a mobile.

Ok, ..

I would say the easiest, as they have only one set of cards unlike Indo Telecom .. is XL

Here is the price...

Rp. 99.000 1 GB Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar and Medan

First column is APN settings

APN : xlunlimited

• User Name : [empty]

• Password : [empty]

, second is GPRS settings....
• APN : www.xlgprs.net

• User Name : xlgprs

• Password : proxl

How to obtain? Get the card, top up, may be with RP 200000 around NZD 30.

Go here, and remember the bits on the bottom bit .. for monthly, otherwise you can choose daily with this sort of pricing

Rp. 5.000

50 MB

 Everywhere

Let me know if you want me to go through the Indo Telecom options ...

Edit for it did not look right straight copy paste.

Thanks. $30 for 1GB is not bad... Will hunt this down at the airport when I land there.

Cheers

Yes, the XL offering is good. Also check out the Telkomsel options at telkomsel.com

It's not even that much...you get the 1 GB just with the initial purchase of Rp. 99,000. The extra top up is needed if you want to make more calls and such. I'm pretty sure that's the case...perhaps someone can confirm this?

Choices 50 mb per day for less than a dollar a day or 15 for 1 GB for a month plus your calls. Local calls cost money there even from land line especially from your hotel
