Folks, we have three Air New Zealand domestic tickets to giveaway for you attending our Geekzone Freeview Pizza 2011.

It's easy to be in to win: simply post here what was your most interesting travel destination. You should also post which flight you'd like to win. We can arrange flights one day before (or on the date) with return one day after.

Event dates are:

Wellington: 12th February
Auckland: 5th March
Christchurch: 19th March

If you win then you are automatically registered for that event. If you don't show up, or fail to take the flight you are banned (joking, but it depends on my mood on the day).

For example:

"My best travel destination was [...] because [...]. I will be flying from Wellington to attend the Auckland event."

I will close this thread Wednesday 26th January and draw three winners.

Remember to follow Air New Zealand on Twitter,  join the Air New Zealand page on Facebook (not required to be in to win).

The best travel destination I have visited is Vietnam. The people are lovely, friendly, hard working and its got both an involved history over the years of differing conflicts and great countryside. The beaches and scenery are fantastic, so much so we have stayed there twice for a months holiday in the last few years.

I will be flying from Auckland to attend the Christchurch event.

that would be an ecumenical matter

Ethiopia. Why.... It's off the beaten track a bit (soo much so in-fact there's only about 200 seats a day fly from one end of the country to the other) so it's more of an adventure type destination....
The food was adventurously simple (and repetitive), but in the north of the country there is a whole hidden history recorded simply in buildings that are carved from solid rock. It's almost incomprehensible how these where built given you'd be in awe of anyone who did it today using modern technology.

A proud people and country that was once so respected by other empires (including the Romans) it was left alone. And the coffee is fantastic..... although that may have something to do with the Italians 'visiting' the place very briefly during the war. But the locals don't like to dwell on that and are immensely proud that they've always been their own sovereign state and have never been invaded.
(And if you're really interested, it's where 'The Ark of the Covenant' ended up, apparently. It's in a mud building, you can take a picture of, being guarded by a 70year old Monk.)

I'd fly to Wellington for pizza, from Nelson.

My best travel destination was my home country Brazil in 2008 with my hungarian girlfriend because she has never been there and I really felt like a tourist. I ate and drank and relaxed like I never did before, even when I was living there. I will be flying from Auckland to attend the Wellington event.

My best travel destination was Germany because I got to go to a proper German wedding for my "German Brother" (A boy we hosted back when I was 8) I understood none of the ceremony, but it was so amazing seeing all the German traditions for weddings and being involved, we were even counted as family and got to sit at the head table! I will be flying from Wellington to attend the Auckland event.

My best flight destination was to Napier. Several years ago I hired a plane and pilot to get me there (from Paraparaumu) for a 1 - day assignment. The pilot, on hearing I had done 50 hours of flying lessons, let me fly half way there, and land the plane, which I did moderately well. He was subsequently a little perturbed to hear that my flying lessons had been done 10 years earlier, and he didn't offer to let me fly on the return journey!
Rest assured if I'm lucky enough to win one of these flights, I won't be offering my assistance at the sharp end of the plane!

I would like flights from WLG to attend the AKL event.

kind regards Andrew TD

My best travel destination was Samoa because I ended up living there for 6 months, and it was amazing experience to see how other people live day to day. Aswell as experience school with a different culture. I will be flying from Wellington to attend the Auckland event. (For free courtesy of AIRNZ I hope)

My most interesting travel destination was going to be Cabo San Lucas, but due to unforseen circumstances, after flying AKL to LAX, had to instantly get back on a plane and return home :(.

I will be flying to the Wellington event with any luck.

For me it would be Philip Island in Victoria because of its beautiful scenery, wildlife, and enchanting character. Unfortunately when I went there for the first time last year I didn't get to spend anywhere near as much time there as I would have liked due to the deadline on returning the rental car, but I definitely plan to go back again.

I would like to fly from Wellington to the Auckland event.

I've got three:

My most "interesting" travel destination was Thailand in 2004 when I was deployed (at extremely short notice) to the tsunami disaster zone with the first group of Kiwis. The majority of my time was spent at Thailands largest mortuary (in Khao Lak) well before facilities were properly established.

I saw many things beyond normal comprehension which will remain with me forever. Although I got to see none of the country at the time (apart from along the route to and from work), it is how I met my wife - she worked in the hotel where we stayed.

My second most interesting travel destination was to Sri Lanka last year for a mates wedding and seeng all the traditional ceremonies associated with it. We were put up and treated like royalty by his family and even got to stay in a private bungalow (more like a mansion, complete with servants) on a tea estate for a few nights as well.

My third most interesting travel destination was being deployed to the Solomon Islands (Guadalcanal) on peacekeeping duties in 2006 a day after the election riots where many buildings in downtown Honiara were burnt down...

I would like to fly from Wellington to the Auckland event.

My best destinations would be a toss-up between Estonia, Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine or Georgia. They're all so bizarre with a mix of old and new not even found in Asia.

Driving in to Romania from Hungary is like going back in time by about 40 years and driving in to Bulgaria from Romania over the Danube has a real "iron curtain" feel, even today. Ukraine is awesome (...if your escort is a member of Interpol or if you have money... but that's another story) and Georgia has some of the best wine in the world - even though about 80% of it is home-made.

I'd fly from Hamilton to Wellington to attend.

Sorry for the double-post... perhaps some more explanation is needed.

My best destinations would be a toss-up between Estonia, Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine or Georgia. They're all so bizarre with a mix of old and new not even found in Asia.

Estonia is like "little Finland". High-tech, highly connected infrastructure with some remnants of uncertain times in it's very recent past.

Driving in to Romania from Hungary is like going back in time by about 40 years - the buildings, the cars, the roads...

Driving in to Bulgaria from Romania over the Danube has a real "iron curtain" feel: perfectly smooth, well laid out but very... imposing and grey - like it was built for an army.

Ukraine is awesome (...if your escort is a member of Interpol or if you have money... but that's another story).

Georgia has some of the best wine in the world - even though about 80% of it is home-made.

...and I'd fly from Hamilton to Wellington to attend.

My best travel destination was USA because when I was turning 12 Dad organised an awesome trip for us to the states for a month - we had an awesome time and it was a great experience. My wife and I also honeymooned in the USA and did a cruise down the Mexican Riviera - it was awesome. My second best travel destination was China - my wife and I went there a few years ago and found it extremely interesting with huge contrasts and a great cultural history.

I would like to fly from Auckland to attend the Chirstchurch event.
