Can anyone here recommend a cheapish car stereo installer? I'm only getting a cheap head unit to replace a faulty factory stereo and don't really want to be paying more for the install!

It should be easy to install yourself mate plus it will save you that little bit of money. PM me if you need some instructions on installing it.

There is one on Tory St, after Vivian St, across from the Top of Tory stores...

Bear in mind it won't be cheap though, average for most car stereo installations is 120-150
Cheapest thing to do:
go to supercheap, get an iso harness to suit your car, spend about 30 min - 1 hour doing it. Usually about 4-6 bolts (if it's your first time at least an hour)

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

From what I've googled it seems pretty straight forward. Its a 92 Corolla and a panasonic headunit. If I chucked my cowboy hat on what's the worst that could happen?

Well I thought I'd post a small update if anyone finds this thread in the future.

I got the stereo off Trademe and it was through Abtec. I went to pick it up and asked how much to install and they said "$80 although what kind of car have you got? oh, those are easy to do yourself. Here let me show you" He then whips out screwdriver and takes the dash and old stereo out leaving me to just swap the brackets over and slot the new one in when I got home.

Very impressive for a Friday afternoon and I'll defaintely be heading back there in the future.

I actually got an email from Berry and Mexted Ltd, explaining the prices. It seems an average stereo installation costs between $70 - $90, including GST, wire, tape, etc. They also say the price can go up if stereo pockets or stereo mounting kits are used, or if the dash/panelling needs to be removed.

I told them I would add the comment here (even though it's an old thread), to keep it more "real".
