Hi there. I know there must be at least a few principals or members of a school board of trustees on this forum so I'll give it a shot. At my schools library, we have a fairly pathetic collection of LGBT related novels or reference/help books on the subject. I was thinking of approaching the school about a dedicated section and ordering more books in. Obviously money would be a problem on the schools already tight budget. So some fundraising might help.

I was thinking, a day where students would be partially exempt from current school uniform rules, so they could wear a brightly coloured/patterned tee-shirt to show support for LGBT students at our school, and if they wanted in they would give a donation of any amount to go towards funding the LGBT section in the library.

So principals and board members or whoever can help, do you think many schools (I go to a public school) would allow this/consider it? One of my best mates is the head boy and a few of my other mates are prefects so if I speak to the principal and get them to talk to him about it as well then maybe it will help it along a bit.

Thanks
- Sam

Why bother?

Physical libraries are practically obsolete and there is plenty of information on alternative sexuality online.

In the UK a lot of councils are closing down their libraries or those that are still around have more computers
CD/DVD's than books.
Are young people still finding out the  information through books or online ?
So the question is. Is there are need ?
What true percentage of the school is LGBT ?
Made ask that a certain part of the book budget is spend on LGBT
or get people to donate a book or two.

Just some random thoughts for you.
