Hi Geekzone,

my daughter accidentally dropped her iphone into the ocean near the beach today. I guess there is no hope to get it fix. I phoned my insurance company for a replace. they told me they need the mobile phone serial number. I wanna know what is the serial number are they loooking for. Is it the IMEI? I did gave the insurance for the IMEI number. but i though IMEI should be private n personal only. they just ask for serial number but didn't say it was IMEI but i just found the phone only had IMEI.
So why do they need the serial number?

Cheers.

They need it so that they can check that you dont claim on that one again, and usually they will get it blacklisted so that if people make a false claim on a phone that it cant be used, but that only works on the network that it is done on, so lots of people will "lose" a phone in NZ and it goes over to the UK and vice versa.

incase you have trouble with the serial number, this will show you where to find it. some models have it on the back of the iphone eg: xx12345xx6
