It seems Trade Me entered the local group discount fray now with Treat Me launching in less than a week, heads on with Groupy (Yellow) and Spreets.

Whatever Yellow paid for Groupy is now looking expensive to the group, with probably not much hope of surviving Trade Me rolling out Treat Me into this field...

Another one? Groupy, one day, Grab One, etc, I think the market's pretty full. Trade me will probably do well though, but i'm more likely to unsubscribe from them all than to subscribe to yet another one.

To be honest, the market for these is so crowded that actual good deals are starting to get few and far between - it's mostly stuff that you can either easily get the same deal via another channel, or can get cheaper elsewhere. There's almost no point looking anywhere except Grabaseat (which still runs some good deals).

Pretty much.

Just look what happened when TradeMe launched jobs and real estate - both are the top sites in those categories.  When you have that much traffic, it's pretty easy to launch into new ventures and clean up.

Heh, webmarshall has the site flagged as spam

Nothing to see here... move on people :D

I agree with the sentiments above. The really good deals are few and far between. Something tells me that in 5 or so years' time, some of these deals sites will morph together.

Hopefully the founders of Groupy got cash not equity in the deal!

Off topic, but did anyone else wonder why Yellow purchased Groupy? Could it be any further from their core business?

Because they have an obsolete product, and a business model that is hemmorrhaging money and they are desperate for any way to increase revenue?

I have the deals emailed each morning. Pretty boring offerings so far but I'm sure eventually I'll find something. Looking at some of the deals (the burger one for eg) I'd wonder why they'd want to lose money but I suppose it's also advertising as well?

Anyone know how to unsubscribe from the Treat Me daily emails? I clicked on their initial email ad and it subscribed me.

There doesn't seem to be an unsubscribe link on their daily emails -isn't this required by law these days?

There is an unsubscribe link in the footer at the very bottom of the emails. I too have unsubscribed, becasue the first few days of deals were really good, but the ones following it haven't been useful to me.
