http://www.dayofsilence.org/

Next Friday (15th) is the national day of silence (meant for US but overseas can do it)

I've gotten a mate at school already to do it (he's head boy at my school too so can help get the word spread out)

I'm going to try get as many of my friends as possible to do it, and speak to the head of level and my head master so they know whats going on.

What I wanted to see was, would any of you guys support this day, and in turn support all our fellow LGBT geekzoners and every other LGBT person out there in this peaceful process against homophobia. I know it would mean a lot to them. That website has everything from little cards to print out to give to people to explain why you're not doing it, to a letter for students to give to their head of level. If you register through the site, you need to use the "college or non-US resident" link just above where you enter your registration info.

Thanks in advance guys, it would mean a heck of a lot if you did it. ANd it doesnt have to be the whole day either. Just while you're at work/school. Obviously if you're a teacher/person who uses the phone or NEEDS to talk, you cant do the whole thing but you could do it at home or something.

Anyways, thanks guys.
- Sam

... in real life. lol.

Or you could just not do it if you felt that strongly. Me and mates are just gonna write on paper if we have to talk.

"anti-LGBT" - no idea what this is. I think you need to work on communications.

I never said anti-LGBT.

And even so, I think its pretty self explanatory.
LGBT = Lesbian Gay Bi and Transgender
Anti = against/non-supportive
Anti + LGBT = against/non-supportive of the Lesbian Gay Bi and Transgener community.
Was that really so hard?

I think I explained what I meant pretty well in my first post actually, if you cant understand that then maybe you need to work on communications?

Sorry I even bothered, seems like no one here cares anyway, only the ones who point out flaws. Thanks...

I think you need to appreciate that this would be nearly impossible for most working people/people with little kids etc. I don't think anyone is deliberately ignoring your cause but if they can't practically do it then they probably aren't going to reply to your thread.

I wasnt meaning that. But the people that have so far have only really pointed out flaws in my post. I understand people cant do it and I never had a problem with that, i dont want it inconveniencing people.

I just think the general concept is too difficult for most people so they won't bother.

If you want to highlight a cause and want people to join in then keep things extremely simple and easy to do.

I appreciate you didn't create the idea, just sayin is all.

I think you've got the wrong end of the stick.

The LGBT acronym is not commonly heard/known acronym in NZ.  Never heard of it myself before one of your other posts in the past.

Well its internationally recognised, and you could still call it the gay community, but its more politically correct I think to say the LGBT community, since its more than just being gay now.

I've never seen the acronym LGBT before, and i'm pretty good with acronyms. I doubt there'd be many people in NZ who know what you mean. This is what I mean about communications - just because you know the acronym and it's obvious to you it's not obvious to everyone else. I didn't have a clue it was related to that, none at all.

Well thats what's called an ASSUMPTION. You assume people will know it, like LOL, short for laugh out loud. You can assume people know what it means, since you and probably a lot of the people you talk to know what it means. Just like for me, LGBT is a known acronym to me and nearly all of my friends, and is pretty much internationally recognised.

EFTPOS? short for Electronic Funds Transfer at Point Of Sale. You dont think people will say that when asking "how will you be paying today? Cash or electronic funds transfer at point of sale?" So you can assume that people will know that term, since you obviously hear that a lot right?

Not sure why you're trying to argue with me. More than one person has said they'd never heard of that acronym. I just suggested you need to spell it out if you want people to know what you mean.

I support the rights of people to do whatever they want, with whoever they want, so long as they don't bother anyone. Sex, religion, whatever.

You're not making a good impression for the LGBT community.

Well thats what that last comment was about. explaining why i didnt use the full spelling. Im glad you dont have any hate against people for who they are.But I dont really see how this is going to make a bad impression for the LGBT community... we're dropping this issue because this is going way off topic. Agree'd?
