Damn! My laptop hdd decided to crapped itself up!

I didn't think this will happen today! was planning on reimaging/backup tonight and it crapped out first! Still trying to see what can i recover, but many times trying to access/boot/reinstall... and even tried taking it out and put on 2.5" external drive and use another pc to read the content, it failed miserably at saying unable to read....

Geez.... i guess i will have to take this in to Harvey Norman to get it fixed! good thing with Extended Warranty, with few months to go before my lease/warranty ends.

What I dreaded most is, the high possibility of losing my valuable data! :-(

This reminds me of years ago, when I really needed portability (was moving countries but needed to carry on working). Got what was then a very expensive and what I believed a quality notebook from Texas Instruments. It seemed fine at first, but that particular model was fond of cooking hard drives... so I lost three of them in quick succession. Making it worse, there was no local repairs and parts facility, so the drives had to be ordered from Australia each time, taking weeks to arrive.

I survived via an external SCSI drive plugged into the docking station but I've been wary of notebooks ever since. :)

Don't think Harvey Normans will be able to restore your data but there are places in Auckland that specialise in recovery. Not sure about the rest of the country.

YEah I pretty much gave up on recovering the data, and it is not worth thousands of dollars to retrieve them back... (the thought of salvaging whatever data is now written off.... :-( )

Anyway, it will be interesting to see what H&N can do and how quick they can get it replaced... The hard disk is a real good one too. Toshiba 60GB 5400RPM with 16MB buffer, and works great! but for weird reason yesterday, it decided to click-to-death.

Have you tried stuffing the HDD into a destop using a converter and reading the data that way?

if you read my first post, you will see that i DID mentioned taking it out from laptop and put into my 2.5" USB external case and try read the content.

However, the drive failed miserably by saying it is unable to read.

You should at least stop using CAPSLOCK to type because it is rude on Internet to use CAPSLOCK to convey your message.

and your replies in earlier posts came across rude and unwelcomed.

FYI, I operate both Mac and PC and have no superior preference over on or another. Both can do and achieve tasks that I want, so there, your "argument" to tell me to get Mac as it is better than PC doesn't appeal me. And saying that to use PC is crazy and adding some scrambled (which i would guess they're rude and unpolite words) just tell me more that you are most probably be a troll with nothing better to do other than trolling this forum/community.

And given that you're only 3-posts old, just position you even more obvious that you are not going to contribute anything better or useful other than trolling.

There. Yes I was directing at you, but I am no bigger fool than you are. So look at the mirror please (for your own sake).

*country hears loud cracking noise* o_O

My HDD did that a while ago (my fault really) found a great free program that would recover the files.
It did so and did it well, will find details on it and post later (if not for the good of this thread then for others)
Something scavenger maybe?

Mutly: Anyone else get any PMs from this BABYGIRLTIGERS person? Are they for real? Much oddness...

I have not receive any PM from Kylie, and now that her account has been locked out, I doubt that we'll be seeing her.

Weird thing is though, she's freshly new, and why pick this topic to jump her trolling gun on? I couldn't help but to think that we may have a mole/troll hiding among us in the community that have nothing better to do but just lay-low and pick a topic and register as new member and troll with it. I know what I just said is a huge speculation, however things just doesn't seem right... how could someone that is 3-posts old, never appeared before, jump on to this 2-days old topic and started nothing worthwhile other than provoking members and their posts.

Just doesn't seem right!

And... may I add, she's only joined up on 7th June (yesterday)... Now what's the odd of a new member, joined and started to jump on the gun so instantly!

This is what Internet trolls do. Just don't extend the thread, lock the user and go along. Nothing to see here. Extending the thread OT is what Internet trolls want you to do...
