Hi,

Im just wondering which site(s) everyone uses to get their daily news ?

I use Stuff.co.nz and NZherald.co.nz but lately when it comes to breaking news they arent as good as they used to be and some of the stories they have are just rubbish and not news at all - IMHO anyway...

Stuff is my first choice - NZHerald dont usually update as as fast esp. in the weekends,  but is there anything better out there???

Twitter, follow enough people and anything interesting gets retweeted. No fluff stories about stupid celebs etc unless you follow morons ;)

Don't know what you're accessing your news on, but. I have an Android App, called 'New Zealand Newspapers' (Baris Efe), which seems to be a collation of most of the NZ print and TV news sources on a newsprint styled page. (includes NBR, Listener and Scoop along with TVNZ and TV3)

Seems to link thru to the local content source eg: if your looking for something in the Manawatu Standard it'll take you to their content on the Stuff site.

Hah today I was reading stuff thinking that it was seriously average. Poor editing of stories, normally biased and provoking, spelling and grammar mistakes everywhere.I was planning on posting tonight on here asking where people get their news from. Random.

My question would be, are there any news sources out there that are quality? I am looking for something digital that I can read on my cellphone. I don't mind paying for it either. Would be keen to hear of anything out there.

It kind of depends on what kind of news you are after.

I use most of the sites on here but I also want Australian news. For that news.com.au and the SMH (Sydney Morning Herald) and The Age (main Melbourne daily) are great.

For tech there is nothing like The Register. The only site I have been consistantly reading for over five years.

These sites carry a suprising amount of NZ related content. They also give a diffrent perspective on NZ news because they are not written by people living here.

If you have the time to read longer articles and want investigative journalism Pro Publica is very good. US based so mostly US topics but well researched and written.

For breaking news there is nothing like Twitter. But a note of caution newspapers tend to tweet everything, twice! So try to get a 'latest updates' feed or be careful about adding more than one feed per publication. Following individual journalists such as Matt Nippert or Jessica Mutch can also be good, forget Samantha Hayes as 'she's for looking, not for cooking' like the saying goes.

Kind regards,

Jack

I don't actually visit the sites... I have their RSS feeds in my reader and then I can go through a lot of headlines over the day, without having to load all the sites, etc, etc...

Also most sites have RSS feeds for specific areas, so I don't get what I don't care about.

I have feeds for Stuff, NZ Herald, BBC, CNN and so on. But it is incredible the low quality of material produced in New Zealand...

Yeah I use Google Reader, subscribe to around 100 low volume high quality blogs and websites.  I try to stick to feeds that are 1-3 posts per day.

I purposely don't subscribe to high volume low quality sites like stuff, nzherald etc that's what I read GP Forums and GeekZone for HAHA - I kid I kid!
