Thinking of getting a tablet, but I can't decide between the two. Which do you have/would you recommend? I've never owned an Apple product, and I love Android, so I'm leaning toward the Acer tab but from the looks of things online people have had problems with the honeycomb os and it's lacking in the app department. Thoughts?

I flip-flopped over the same issue. What decided it for me was that I wanted to be able to video Skype...something Android still cannot do.

Other than that I probably would have been just as happy with the Acer.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Hi,

Why not consider other Honeycomb options (like Xoom or Asus Transformer)?
I have a Transformer and am really really happy with it...

I think the biggest strenght of Apple products is that they all integrate together into that tight Apple ecosystem. If you don't already use an Apple product, you probably won't get this benefit...

Also, if you already are an Android fan, I would go for one of the Honeycomb tablets.

The problems that people are having with Honeycomb all seem to be software related and we know that updates are pretty quick to come. Neither the Iconia nor the Transformer had a great deal of customisation added to the OS so this helps getting a pretty quick turnaround for updates from Google. (Transformer already got 3.1 update and Iconia is due to get it this week or next week...)

iPad 2. Tablet size is really good and the OS is much better in comparison to Android. Android on tablets has failed so far.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Good topic!

I have same questions, but also include the Samsung 10.1 when it is released. It is very close in size specs to iPad2 but with the advantage of Android.

Skype with vid is not a pressing issue, but hope that Android/Skype soon addresses it. Other than that I am an Android convert

I have an old Ipad 1
pretty happy with it, if you want a cheap tablet, especially when ipad2 is now on the market

othervise, I would go for a asus transformer over the other android tablet
innovative design and the keyboard base is a big battery extender, a big plus for the asus transformer

MOBILE: Huawei P30
OTHER: Thinkpad E14 + Asus Vivobook + Intel NUC5i3 + A family of Raspberry Pi x 9 + Amazon Echo

Hi,

Really don't want to start a war but being the owner of an Android Tablet (Transformer) and having played with iPads (1&2) for a while, here are a few reasons I prefer Android over iOS for a tablet:
- Widgets
- Screen Sections (don't remember the official name for this) which lets app feature independently scrollable areas.
- Integration with Google Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Reader, etc...

I do agree that the number of app on Adnroid is far smaller than what is available on iOS (especially tablet-specific apps) but I am sure time will only make things better...

I'm kindof thinking the same thing. I use a cheapish Nokia phone, as I like the physical buttons and I txt a lot. I have a 2G iPod and a MiFi to give me mobile internet at work, just for email, facebook, etc, as I move around a lot. The iPod's good, but the screen's a bit too small, whereas the iPad isn't very portable or discrete.

I'm considering getting a large android phone to replace all three devices. The thing i'd miss most is a keyboard with actual buttons to txt with.

if you are looking at something for a phone replacement and is more portable
then the 7" samsung tablet might be suitable

Yeah it might be, but i'm happy enough with what I have for now, and while Android's pretty good now it'll mature heaps more if I wait 6 months. The pace of change is still very rapid, with the OS and the devices.

I wonder if I can fit a 7" tablet in my pocket, and how good it'd be as a phone. The reason I don't have one yet is because I think they'd suck as phones, with no real keys, and it'd be heavy to hold to your head. Yes, I still use my phone for calls!

Asus Transformer for me also. Am very happy with it..

Computer Lounge is the cheapest I think.

When iOS5 is released, you will no longer need itunes for any idevice

I thought about waiting for the hp touchpad, but ended up getting an iPad. Reading about the hp one today it looks like when it is released (1 July in the US) it will have around 300 apps, which is more than android honeycomb.
