Just got rang by a phone scammer, trying to tell me my computer had viruses. I had heard about this before so I thought I would go along for the ride.
The phone conversation started off with him prenouncing my last name completly wrong, this was the first thing that made me suspicious. Anyway he told me he was Steve Jackson from Global Online Service I asked for an address, he told me 33 beach road auckland, however when I asked for a suburb in auckland he was un able to answer finally telling me he was unable to provide me with this secure information. He then got me to press windows+R keys and then type eventvwr, he then got me to go into windows logs application and then told me that all the alerts and information were viruses, I then proceeded to tell him that there were none. He then directed me to windows key+R again and directed me to www.logmein123.com while this was loading I asked him for a telephone number, he tried to give me a 1800 number, I explained we dont have 1800 numbers so he told me is was an aussie number, I then asked for the auckland number, he then told me I had to ring the austrailian number then get transfered to auckland (yea right). Any way I went along with it until he gave me a pin number to use for the logmein123.com website which was 405716 (anyone is welcome to try) as I was not willing to go any further at this point I gave him an ear full and he eventually hung up. Wish I had a virtual machine I could of let him rip in just to see what he would of done.
I had heard about these guys but didnt think it would happen to me.
Anyway spread the word to your non tech friends
