Well, my first thought is that the picture is of the tail section, not the main fuselage.. but who could let trivial things like that get in the way of a good story :-)

Lol :-)

It's definitely plausible. Look up pictures of the Comanche (RAH-66?). That tail section looks very similar to it. Also over at the Danger Room blog on Wired the commentator (David Axe?) links to some other resources regarding work on main rotors with unevenly spaced blades. Doing so loses you some performance but it breaks up the whop-whop-whop sound of the rotor and allows your chopper to get in much closer before it can be heard. All very interesting stuff.

It would make one HELL of a movie if the true story was ever released.

There has been a lot written on this at the time.

In short, it's very real, it's a Blackhawk, and it's been highly modified to evade radar. And, it's highly secret.

Not just radar - it's audible emissions are also suppressed. (I would also not be surprised to hear IR is too).

I expect the thing is damn near silent and invisible at night until it's landing in your compound.

Yeah, you wouldn't know a thing until some hardcase psycho with an M16 was whacking you over the head with it...

In fairness, it was a TERRORIST clothesline, and therefore able to destroy western civilisation with it's guerrilla dehydration abilities.

And you should have heard her whining about having to do the washing AGAIN just because it got a little Jet A1 on it, talk about an old fish wife!

I thought they just flew a suitcase of money in beforehand to quieten any noise about the helicopters. Any protest afterwards was just for appearances.
