OK, so I am planning a holiday to Aussie in October. Return on Air NZ is just over $100 more expensive than Jetstar.

Question is, if you were me, would you risk it and go with Jetstar and spend the lucky $100 on drinks, or would you play it safe and go with reliable and Volcanic ash-friendly Air NZ?

Here I am for the 3rd time this week waiting for Jetstar with an expectation based on previous recent experience that it will fly 1-2hrs behind schedule. As far as I am concerned if it were not for my employer booking me on JS even with my protests then I would be glad never to enter the door of thier jets ever again.

dont waist your life waiting for these lame idiots, my time and life is worth more than the savings they make.

I am thinking I could go with Jetstar, purchase travel insurance which all also cover if I stuff up the rental car? Haha...

Emirates is too expensive for the travel period unfortunately.

In the past when I used to fly OS a lot my best experiences were on Emirates and Lauda, but donbt they are of much use to use on a short leg to Oz

My brain says Air NZ cuz it is the logical and safe choice. My bank account says Jetstar. I will end up paying the $100 extra... just for peace of mind....

On flights out of New Zealand I'd vote Air New Zealand. I'd vote Air New Zealand inside too, but just booked some flights to Auckland- Air New Zealand was $1000 while Jetstar $500. Granted Jetstar fare was not flexible but seriously, 100% more?

Begs the question, does travel insurance cover any natural disasters like the volcanic ash clouds and what not?

Yep 100% more, thats good while you have no luggage, then the wheels fall off. I find the staff to be rude and their attitude is quite abrupt and undesirable, its really unpleasant. In my view they are vile.

Wierd, normally I find Emirates the cheaper of the 3 and they gernerally offer more bang for your buck.

The last 4 times our boss has flown jetstar she has ended up flying on AirNZ as the jetstar planes were eithe rbeing serviced, cancelled or 8 hours+ late. Not worth it.

Too bad Pacific Blue isn't here anymore.

Pacific Blue still flies trans-tasman. However, prices the same as Air NZ.
