Having just waited no less than 8 days to receive a package sent to me in Martinborough from a friend in Invercargill via New Zealand Post, the apparent ineptitude of post services here is high on my mind.

This has been reinforced this morning by the fact that a package I ordered from Toronto, Canada arrived in Auckland via UPS on 19th at 2028 hrs.

Not remarkable unless I tell you that it was dispached from Gelaskins in Toronto at 1623 on the SAME day!

Of course, there is an extra day in the mix due to the Dateline and so on, but I am willing to bet you a pint that it will now take longer to travel the 701 km from Auckland to my hands than it took to travel the 13,876 km from Toronto to Auckland.

Am I alone in regarding that as slightly ludicrous?

Im with you on the frustration......$25 for one page via NZ post International courier. Supposedly at their door within 4 days.

04.08 PM 16/08/11 Picked up
07.22 AM 20/08/11 Left New Zealand

Your Item is in transit to its country of destination.

My last small parcel took 3 WEEKS to arrive in the States via airmail. I was blaming the US the 1st time. sighs..

I have had items arrive from the States in 4 or 5 days and some from around NZ that took a couple of weeks.

However, last week I ordered an item from and Auckland firm at about 2:30pm on a Wednesday and it arrived at my rural address out of Kaitaia at about 4pm on the Thursday.

Not too bad eh!

Thats not bad, and of course if its a bill it will always reach you quicker. :D

Im just wondering if its the trip across from north to south that takes the time..does it go on the ferry or by air?

I recall a few weeks ago NZ Post saying that are closing the sea mail to overseas...and Im going WTH? who has sea mail nowadays. Reminds me of the clipper ships!! 9 months from here to england. :)

The last FedEx item I had was Fed Ex to Auckland, PBT to Wellington, Masterton Transport to Masterton and then local postman to my house. When there are that many cooks in the kitchen, trouble is likely. I actually filed a complaint with FedEx about that system, because they never tell you that the parcel has changed hands or what the new company's tracking details are. I told them I paid Fed Ex to deliver it and that was exactly who I expected to deliver it.

The odd thing is that the delivery via UPS to NZ cost $19.95 and the 8 day (supposedly next day) delivery from Invercargill cost $12 or so.

It's the lackadaisical attitude of NZP that I find most frustrating. When asked when I could expect the Invercargill delivery they said "If it is not here after 2 weeks, we'll file a report."

Just another industry that needs better competition and regulation I guess. Mind you, my wife worked there for a while and having heard her reports, I should not be too surprised I suppose!

That's impossible. If it was dispatched from Toronto on the 19th it would not land in Auckland til the 21st at a minimum.

Maybe they have finally figured out teleportation?

Perhaps it is a pre-clearance scan when loading?

I had this with a FedEx item whew it said Auckland but it was only the paperwork for customs clearance.

I'm not trying to make excuses for NZPost and I agree it is frustrating. In fairness to them, the weather in the past week would have contributed to the delays.

I ordered something from Hong Kong last Monday, it landed in Akl at 13:40 on Friday, according to track & trace, and was delivered by the postie (it was a small parcel, treated as a registered letter) by 11:00 on Saturday morning. I was suitably impressed.

After I was born, I didn't talk to my parents for two years.

Gah! Yeah, I've had packages handed over to other couriers but you never know which. The other thing I've noticed is when the tracking says something like New York > Los Angeles > Honolulu > Auckland > (silence) > (silence) > (package turns up 3 days later on a different courier). The tracking always seems to fizzle out as soon as the package hits NZ.

I recently had one where I signed up for an email delivery notification. I arrived home to find the package there but I hadn't received the email. The online tracking still said that it was sitting in Auckland. More than a month later I finally received the delivery notification email.

Well, that is what it says on UPS' website. That is the only thing I can base it on.

I had a "signature required" package come from china that went China> Auckland>--->---> Delivered. I only knew it was delivered at 10.23am because of the website.
I was home all day that day and thought WTF??? and went hunting.

The courier stuck it behind a pot plant. So much for the sig. or even knocking...

Not sure what the time difference is with Toronto, but its 7.35pm Sat night in Vancouver right now, so it sounds to me like you were lucky and it just caught that days plane out. Wish mine were that fast. :)

They dont even bother trying to deliver the sig required ones from HK I find, just the postie drops off a card saying I can get it from a random post shop vaugely near here which is only open business hours.

If they had tried to deliver it and get a signature they would have had to come to the house, and no post person on the DVR all day that they left the card.

If its going to be tracked/need a sig I usually put my PO Box so I get it from that post office, but so many times the sellers dont disclose that it will be tracked so I put the house address so that it gets left here where they are told to leave it.
