According to Stuff

http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/5645782/Fake-pilot-scare-at-Auckland-Airport-a-TV-stunt

The fake pilot at Auckland Airport was a TV stunt.  All I can say is what a bunch of a...holes mediaworks are if this is true.  As if it isn't enough of a PITA going through security at the airport without them pulling something like this and getting the checks amped up even further.  Wonder why they didn't go all the way and try the stunt on 11 September?  All I can say is it's a shame it wasn't the US where the security staff probably have a shoot first ask questions later attitude.  Good on the Air New Zealand staff for spotting the fake and turning him away, could have been embarassing during RWC.

If this is correct then I agree with this comment
Airline Pilots' Association aviation security coordinator Paul Lyons said he would like to see the TV crew "behind bars for a short time of reflection".

Poor ratings for an overall far-less-than average show should be punishment enough.

Loved pulp sport, but Wannaben is just pants.

I guess it probably falls into the realms of "It seemed like a good idea at the time".

What is worrying is that they tried to get to a secure part of the airport - got rejected and managed to walk out the front door and drive off. As has been pointed out - they have security at the airport and they should have intercepted him.

Personally - as stupid as the stunt was - I am pleased that is all it was....

Jail time and cancelling of the show seems like a good end to this "prank"...

This guy is a danger to society!

Stop over reacting. This is just a lot of fuss about nothing.

He never had any chance of getting anywhere sensitive.

The intention was there and he tried no fuss at all

Various media organisations from around the world have at times tested security at various facilities .

I have no problem with this at all and in some ways I expect media to keep our government honest in how they are spending our tax payer dollars.

Better for the media to expose security holes than a terrorist.

Unlike what the slovak authorities tried last year...

I saw a video last week of an idiot from The Rock trying to access an off-limits area of Eden Park during the first week of the RWC. It even got to the stage where the security guard had to get physical with him. I am struggling to see how that is even in the least bit funny. Then again thats how I feel with most of the childish antics on that radio station. Hmm... aren't they owned by Mediaworks too?

But the idiots most likely made it harder for the genuine traveler know..

Jail time and pull the show..

No doubt this will be lead item on 3News gloating how they nearly made it past airport security..

They've done it before...
http://www.3news.co.nz/Campbell-Live-tests-revised-airport-security-/tabid/367/articleID/163541/Default.aspx

At least it did spur a round of security adjustments in that case.

Umm, no , Muslim terrorists  have made it harder for the genuine traveller.

But, I agree in that they should be prosecuted .  They are intelligent enough to know this was a distinct possibility.

There will be no gloating  , they failed.
