Has to be noted:
http://www.stuff.co.nz/technology/5784409/Computing-pioneer-Dennis-Ritchie-dies

Father of the C programming language and (co-father of) Unix.

Arguably he has had more impact on computing than Steve Jobs and his passing has gone pretty much unnoticed.

Totally agree, he's more of a computing pioneer

As where Jobs was just a marketer/businessman, with Woz as the technical genius behind him

RIP Dennis RIP

Remember programming my first Hello world in Pascal, then C back in the early 90s, then C++ in the late 90s then C# in 2002. At least his legacy will continue on with each new generation of C/Java and pretty much every programming language in the last 20 years

I have moved across the ditch.  Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

Dennis Ritchie: The Shoulders Steve Jobs Stood On:

http://www.wired.com/wiredenterprise/2011/10/thedennisritchieeffect/

Ritchie is worthy of a national mourning address from Obama and a reminder about Ritchie's contribution to America's prosperity, the world, and the value of public science. This is not exaggerating by any stretch of the imagination.

I dislike these comparisons being made but since some of the SJ tributes were completely over the top (Einstein OMG) this was bound to happen.

Didn't see this thread before I posted mine. Perhaps mods could merge or something.
