I find it quite bizzare that they are playing a South American-sounding trumpet line for all the kick-offs. It's not very 'New Zealand' really.

Anyone know the significance of this? Sorry if someone has discussed this somewhere already but my searches turned up nothing.

The only mention I can find is a few sites calling it the Allez! trumpet.

Weird...

HA! Found it!

'Its doesn't have a name, it is a bull fight call that was traditionally played at bull fights. It was used as part of the matador stance when the bull charged.'

That was in reference to the 2007 world cup. Must be an ongoing world cup thing.

EDIT: Quote was a bit off, it does have a name - 'Allez, Ole'.

Obviously a crowd participation thing, you can hear the crowd roar after it happens.

It makes me smile, no harm in it.

I had also been wondering about it, and had done some searching but turned up empty handed.

I recognised it as a bull fight call but found it odd being used for each kick off/restart in the RWC matches.

But, as others have said - it is getting crowd participation, which is cool.

Isn't it used in the wellingon 7's every year. They asked this question on the Edge radio show. Also why do they continually pay the same 4 songs over and over again, which is more annoying.

It was also used in this years cricket world cup

Having attended all the AB's games those same four songs are so annoying

No i dont think so. Having been to a couple of RWC games this year i can say that the crowd gets right into it :) (myself included!)

No i dont think so. Having been to a couple of RWC games this year i can say that the crowd gets right into it :)? (myself included!)

Thanx for the info. Watching them on TV the crowd roar seems so consistent I thought it was recorded as well..

It is definitely an effective way to get the crowd into it but it just seems a strange choice.

robbyp - I definitely agree with you on the songs, how on earth is Black Eyed Peas in there (that 'I got a feeling' song) - at least play all NZ music, we make enough of it!

Either way, no real issues here, this has been the best RWC I have seen, lets end it on a good note!

I like it. The countdown before kickoff is also great. Adds great atmosphere to the games.

What I don't like is that maori vuvuzella thing that gets blown by the half naked guy just before the teams enter the field.
