Was in Norman Ross (Tower Junction) today and saw they had 2TB externals on special at 157 for the Iomega and 159 for the Seagate. 1.5TB externals were about 129 or something.

I wonder if the 2tb seagates last longer then 2 months before they start ticking like the 1.5tbs

HDD's have gone up over the last month but I expect that they'll soon fall down to the $130ish mark that they were a month or so ago.

PB Tech had a black Friday special for $99 + GST for 2TB externals.

I wouldn't be surprised if HD prices start to go up doubling in price..perhaps even more...there is a world wide shortage of HD's

2TB Seagate Hard Drive in Canada is $189 Canadian (cheapest 2TB drive on the online store). I am scratching my head as to why they are still cheap in NZ.

1.5TB Seagate is $159 cnd. And this is the online store in Canada that almost always has the best prices for computer parts in the country.

A year ago - Nov 2 2010 ,I bought Western Digital WD20EARS Caviar Green 2TB for $99.49. If today I bought the same identical hard drive is on sale today ....it costs $219.89 cnd. At one point I think 2TB drives got down to $70 bucks.

Go check out the prices if you like at NCIX.com make sure you are in the Canadian site and not the US site.

If prices stay low in NZ..I won't complain if you are right sbiddle

You do have to wonder if some retilers are taking advantage of the situation and getting higher margins, if they already had old stock that they purchased at the cheaper price.

You do have to wonder if some retilers are taking advantage of the situation and getting higher margins, if they already had old stock that they purchased at the cheaper price.

And why wouldn't they?

Good on them... Anyone that buys stock in such quantity they could have an appreciable number still, after the floods presumably gets burnt at other times as costs go down... If they buy drives and the costs go down, you can bet that to sell them, they'll have to drop their pricing to the market... Why should it be any different if costs go up? They are just pricing their stock to the market. Nothing wrong with that.

I sure would if I were them!

Nothing really, as long as they aren't saying that their prices have gone up as a direct result of the floods in thailand as it cost them more to buy in the stock that they are now selling.
