I just tried to create a free website on Zymic.com. But their server, zymichost.com, is apparently blocked in NZ. Any way to check this out, is there a list somewhere, who blocks it?

They had 5GB of storage and unlimited bandwidth. Can anyone point to an unblocked site that's easy to use, a decent amount of storage, and can I can use Coppermine photo gallery on?

I just get a timed out message when I try to log in to my Control Panel.
You sign up on Zymic.com no problem. But then when choosing your website name it's blahblah.zymichost.com. I can't log on to the Control Panel on that. So I went on their live chat and they said :
Dan: New Zeauland has blocked our servers just so you know
Dan: its due to your country is blocking our servers
Chainsaw: What? I'll get the govt to look into it! why the heck would they do that?
Dan: high abuse from our servers

Can you give a full example URL? zymichost.com and www.zymichost.com redirect to zymic.com for me (which loads successfully).

Edit: A quick search turned up "modzilla.zymichost.com", which also loads here. It could be your ISP (I'm on FX), which are you using?

Edit 2: I can't get to it from Telecom.

Traceroute is returning "unknown host toaster.zymichost.com" from Telecom. However a traceroute to its IP address (67.220.217.235) appears to work. Interestingly, adding 67.220.217.235 toaster.zymichost.com to /etc/hosts doesn't seem to make it work.

It's no biggie I guess, I just have to find a different free webhost. It's just for overflow from my one to which I will link. Just frustrating after signing and setting up.

The URL http://toaster.zymichost.com/ loads fine for me (TCL cable), I highly doubt Zymic would have been "blocked by New Zealand". It is more likely that they would have blocked some New Zealand IP ranges or they have been blocked by some New Zealand ISPs. Having said that, I would be highly irritated if my ISP decided to block some IP ranges and not make that information public or at least available to me.

Hosting is so cheap, why not just pay for it. I am sure your time is worth something to you, so it is often false economy to use a free unreliable service.

I'm home now and it's working here on TCL too. It looks purely like a Telecom issue.

I am paying for some already. I just want somewhere to stick old photos as they get knocked off my one as I put newer ones on. As I do not make money from this I don't want to pay any more. I'll check on Slingshot when I get home.

Why don't you just increase your diskspace with your existing host, or switch to one that provides unlimited diskspace. The one I am with has unlimited disksapce, and is great for displaying lots of images where you don't have to worry about running out of diskspace and the time moving stuff between different websites.
Dealing with free providers can be expensive in terms of wasted time trying to resolve problems, slow loading speeds, and they don't tend to last long either.

Who are you with?

I'm not making money on my site, so to me any expense has to be carefully weighed up.

I have emailed Telecom asking them what's the guts.
