HI guys,

It's that time of the year again. Let's start sharing a list of the coolest places to check out Christmas lights.

Let me start off with the most obvious Tongue Out

Franklin Road, Auckland City

Honeysuckle Lane, Mairangi Bay, Auckland

For west aucklanders, there's one house in Rua Rd / Croyden Rd (street changes name in the middle) that is beyond over the top, totally off the chain with many many thousands of lights. Have not seen for myself whether he has done it again this year.

Cheers,
Joseph

Years ago there used to be some fantastic displays by residents of a few streets off Dunbars Road in Halswell, Christchurch. Does anyone know whether that's still happening these days?

Go to http://www.lightupchristmas.co.nz - that has a list of Christmas light displays throughout the country. The site is now in its third Christmas (about 200 lights listed last year).

(Shameless plug, as I am the developer of the website.)

There is also a house down Beach Road in Te Atatu Peninsula that has a very spectacular garden display, including one of those musical shows with lights and music synchronized by computer. The garden is open to the public for a gold coin donation (with proceeds going to charity). Heres a video that someone took from last years display.

Someone find the exact address and put on www.lightupchristmas.co.nz please :)

In Hamilton:

Mormon Temple in Temple View, they do a pretty good job...they looked much better when they switched from old fashioned lights to LEDs

Harrowfield Drive, its basically every house along here and is so popular there is sometimes a police car at the corner of Harrowfield and River road providing traffic control

In New Plymouth

Can't go past Pukekura Park, always looks great

In Rocky Bay, Waiheke there is a house that always goes all out with the Christmas decorations. People come from all over the island and they often let them in to their driveway area so they can wander around and have a look, but the best way is to either hop on a boat or walk down the end of point to see it reflecting off the water.
Its amazing, and if I get the chance this year I'll try to get some photos

Yep - best public lighting display in the country bar none.

Christmas lights on Devon St (main road thru town) aren't what they used to be, but I think they are putting more into Pukekura Park instead.

Shands Road, near corner of Marshes road (I think) in Prebbleton/Broadfields Christchurch, fantastic christmas display, grows each year, heaps of work gone into it and friendly hosts to boot
