You maybe able to pick up a cheap second hand mini system with a record player, as many will be unused. The automatic ones tend to break or seize up over time.

Cheap turntables are almost always completely crap.

Spend the same amount on a second hand turntable from Trademe etc.  I picked up a 1980's Rega Planar for about $260 and it's beautiful.

Do a bit of research on the tables you find for sale, before you buy.  Just remember shipping is pretty hard on them - especially complicated auto-return models.  The beauty of the Planar is that is has none of this.

You will really notice the difference.  Also, clean up those records.

Edit: picture is example only.
Edit: Whoops, just saw your price range.  Dunnersfella said it right, if you want to listen to vinyl you gotta spend a couple hundred to get the benefits.
