I recently purchased some gear from the States and got it shipped to NZ via USPS 3-4 day shipping. Yesterday I was checking out the tracking info and it says the item is clearing Australian customs in Sydney, which is a bit strange. The seller has assured me he has shipped the package to the correct address (and does not think NZ is a state of Australia) but I am a bit concerned.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with USPS? Would you suggest I begin disputing the transaction with Paypal?

huh, even your parcel chose australia...

maybe they don't have direct shipping route between US - NZ? it could be US - AUS - NZ? how many days have you waited now? personally, i would wait at least 7 working days. however, keep an eye on the tracking. if it is 'delivered' and you have'nt received it, then you should do something about it sooner.

The weird thing is that it's clearing customs and is out for delivery. If it was just a stop over it wouldn't clear customs. Another weird thing is that all flights from the west coast of the states go via auckland en route to Sydney so it's even more odd.

I had an item shipped a week or so ago that came from the US via Aussie.

Also USPS so maybe a bit of there cargo goes direct to aussie and then over the ditch from there.

That will be a surprise to the airlines that fly direct USA West Coast to Sydney.

Sorry, I wasn't aware of any airlines that do fly direct. I know Qantas flies via Auckland, as does Air New Zealand.

Also, thanks for the hope, maybe it will show up. I will ring NZ post on Monday to confirm, they might be able to shed some light on the issue. This was supposed to be a Christmas present for someone leaving to go overseas next weekend so hopefully it does show up soon.

Qantas also flies direct, as do a large number of other airlines. Most freight also doesn't travel on commercial aircraft.

It's very common to see goods from UPS, DHL and FedEx all transit Sydney on their way to NZ.

Awesome, thanks that's actually good news. I stand corrected. Hopefully my parcel will arrive as scheduled. Attached is a screenshot from Aus post which says the destination is Australia...

Mine never said the destination was Austalia, it had the tracking updates going through Australia but the destination was always NZ. Might pay to make a call in the morning.
