Hey all, I have just purchased a very nice 4 door Golf R32, the Mk4 model which has a 6 speed manual.

For those not in the know, these are the top range Golf's and feature a 3.2V6 plus 4WD, and put out 240HP. They come standard with leather seats, traction control, 18" alloys, twin exhausts etc

Just curious if anyone else of geekzone is a R32 fan?

Focus XR5 is waaaaayyy nicer!

I've never actually driven an R32 but the GTi is a fantastic vehicle to drive.

Have driven a Mk5 model and that was very nice, don't own one though. Instead my daily driver is a slightly faster car from Japan :)

Yeah, the Mk5's are nice, and the Mk5 R32 has slightly more power, but doesn't come with the option for a manual, just the DSG.

"slightly faster car from Japan", must be an EVO or WRX? ;-)

I'm not a petrol head, but I do own a VW Golf, and it's a Mk. 6 bought brand new last year:

VW Golf Mk. 6 2.0 TDI

It's a 2.0 TDI which produces 320Nm of torque and consumes just 5L/100km of fuel. Personally I love the torquey feel of a modern common-rail diesel. It's like surfing on a wave with loads of instant acceleration available. Diesel engines produce pretty much all their torque at the bottom end, so there's no need to change down a gear before things start to happen.

The best thing is the fuel economy: 1000km on a 55 Litre tank.

We fill up at truckstops using a fuel card which gives about 10c per litre discount off retail prices. It does look a bit out of place when an 18-wheeler drives up alongside it, but paying only $70 or so to fill it up keeps me smiling all the way to the bank.

Sure a Golf GTI or Golf R will blow it into the weeds speedwise, but that's not what's important to me here in the Far North. There's hardly a straight road anywhere -- most of them are windy as hell -- and this thing just handles like a dream, while using so little fuel it's amazing.

Only downer was forking out up to $1000 every time the thing needed a service...that was criminal!

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Thanks! And those costs remind me of when I had my Merc, even a set of rear tires was $500+!

And yeah, it really just GOES, and none of that turbo lag you get in a GTI, or a WRX/EVO. But its made all the more fun by the bodies ability handle all that power.

Personally I never liked the R32 Skyline, however the R34 is a different story.
