I'm looking for some new glasses, because I feel like a change.
Spec Savers are great, I got my last set from them and they've held well, even repaired them for nothing when they snapped in half.

But I've seen some really decent deals online at a few websites, and was wondering if any of you on here have had any success stories with these online sites?

Or would you recommend any stores with a retail presence that aren't too expensive?

These guys have a huge range and great prices:

http://www.zennioptical.com/

I have ordered several pairs of prescription glasses from them and each time they arrived within about 2 weeks, exactly as I ordered,  Make sure you get copies of your prescription from an optician first, then you can enter those numbers into the online order form, and save heaps of $$$.

I've used Clearly Contacts without problems.

Another for Clearly Contacts. Very cheap for first pair at least, so not much to lose there. Think a full set of glasses (frames and lenses) for $37 delivered...

I've seen Clearly Contacts before, never used until today - decided to get some contact replacement from them to test how fast it is...

Another thumbs up for ClearlyContacts.

When buying glasses I proabaly wouldn't use them for my main pair becuase obviously you can't try them on to see what they look like. The have the 'tool' to upload a photo and overlay a pair but the result is soso. Landed a pair of prescription sunglasses (non-polarized, just shaded lenses) for $110 and a pair of glasses that I use when playing squash for $55. They're normally here within a week or so.

If you use them also do a google search for "coupon clearlycontacts" and you can normally score another 5 or 10% discount.

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

Anything to do with health I would be wary of doing online. You may save a few dollars, but you've only got one pair of eyes.

I'm not sure I'd order glasses, but wouldn't worry about contacts...

It's important that contact lenses are correctly stored and shipped. Often the online ones are not handled correctly and can lead to serious eye conditions.

Apart from that it's important, if you are wearing contacts, to get your eyes regularly checked. At least once a year.

I've worn glasses since I was four and can't believe how blase people are about their eyes.

I got my glasses from http://www.zennioptical.com/ over a year ago after getting my prescription from Spec Savers when they had a 'half price prescription month'.
Will gladly order my next ones from there again.

Yep, before buying glasses get a prescription and check them after.

I have my eyes checked frequently because of previous surgical interventions...

I used www.smartbutglasses.co.nz a couple of months ago to purchase a pair of perscription sunnies, although not actually based in NZ the shipping was still pretty quick (16days from order to delivery) and the customer service was excellent. They even have a 3d try on using your webcam a bit gimmicky but gives an idea of the style that will work for you.

I think the biggest issue and I assume it is the same with all online sites is you cannot get a full refund if you don't like the style (think they offer a refund on the frame but not the lenses). So that could be an issue seeing as you can't actually try them on like you would in a shop.

I've got to say that article sounds rather like sour grapes over parallel importing more than anything else.
