Was looking for a case for an LG P500 mobile, I noticed the mobile phone manufacturers in this trademe list are a little out of date. I had a nice Alcatel phone back in 2000..

And the RAM options also looks like it hasn't been updated since 2007:

Anyone else noticed any others?

Would seem logical to take it up with TradeMe - they are usually pretty good about adding/changing category options for valid reasons.

IMO Trademe has gone downhill since it was brought out. Sucking every cent out of it without putting hardly anything back (Kiwi Rail anyone?). The success and listing fees keep getting higher and higher and as you point out there does not seem to be much development going back in.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Yeah, get rid of all the old product categories. They could also simplify the choices by not including less popular systems. That way I'd only have to choose between Android phones and iPhones. And why should people with old computer systems get any help. They made their choice a long time ago. Vintage and retro enthusiasts should be encouraged to use second-hand and antique shops... Oh, that's right. Trade Me was meant to replace those stores.

You're right about the RAM option needing updating. You can put it in the TradeMe suggestions if it isn't already there. I've found that it makes little difference for most suggestions. In this case, more people doing searches for 4GB or 8GB will probably have greater impact.

Having just bought some RAM, I did find it quite tedious wading through all the 1Gb+ listings.

We're looking at houses at the moment, and I find it quite frustrating that you can't search by section size, as that is a deal-breaker for me. Also when you search by price limit, heaps of 'by negotiation' or 'POA' listings come up that are obviously going to sell for alot more (sometime the description even lists a higher price). Sometimes if I can be bothered, I report them all as being in the wrong category, but it's probably a waste of time. Maybe more effective would be to report the agents to the Real Estate Institute for misleading marketing. It's just so time consuming weeding out all the unsuitable listings, it should be easy.

They are notorious for ignoring a lot of input from customers. This has a lot to do with the volume of input. I can assure you they receive many, many suggestions for new categories (even have a section of their message board dedicated to it) and it is overwhelming.

Personally I think they need to rework the entire category structure; remove many of the 'brand' categories (such as iPad) and replace them with generic ones (tablet, notebook etc...), the search of the title should be enough to handle the rest of the specifics.

I've found they don't respond quickly to suggestions.
I had a few conversations with them about Bluray discs for instance, and how they were using Bluray photos when you listed a DVD etc which was confusing/false advertising etc.

The one that gets me is the location searches. Like for cars you get all NZ or just one specific location. In Palmerston North I want to know about Taranaki, Whanganui, Palmerston North, Kapiti, Wellington, Wairarapa, Hawkes Bay etc and I have to do this across 5 tabs or something. I'd love to be able to select results from each of those regions etc.

Probably the easiest way to do that, is go to Browse - choose your category and then go More Options and in the right hand drop down box choose Current Listings and then in the field to the left type in $1 reserve.

If you wanted to choose all of Computers, you just click the Computer link at the top, otherwise just choose what area you want.

I suggested to them years ago to adjust their DSLR camera categories, and it was done soon thereafter! Maybe just good timing on my part.

I've contacted them a few times about a seller that uses a photo from a commercial website selling a similar, but competing, item. Obviously using that photo is against their rules, but they've done nothing about it.

Yes those brands look pretty out of date. I have found that too with various things. I think TM has reached it's peak now, they haven't really brought much out recently that isn't similar to what other companies offer. Places like mightyape seem to be working their way into the market more, as they appear to now let people sell second hand things.
