Apparently if you sign up before 29th Feb, you can have a month's Consumer.org.nz subscription for $1.

Just an FYI to anyone who might be interested.

:)

EDIT: Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with consumer.org.nz.
Just a friendly post to alert people to the deal.
I've signed up. Will see how it goes.

hmmm I signed up a few years ago, decided I didn't really like it after a few months and cancelled it.  It was the hardest thing ever to cancel.  I cancelled it, they kept charging me.  After frequent calls and still being charged I contacted my credit card and stopped it that way.

Could just be a one off, still for a consumer org ...

Last time I checked them out via the free access offer, most of info are out dated, and only a very small number of products ever reviewed.

And judging from the facts that many "professional" reviewers are biased one way or the other, I doubt I'd ever pay for a such a subscription.

I am disgusted with the way Consumer run their online system. I joined for 6 months and when it expired I expected it to stop. But no, I was autosigned up for another 6 months without my permission and my credit card debited. I had to complain repeatedly to get my money back.

Turns out you have to manually opt out of their billing process or you automatically get rebilled. I complained to Fair Go on their website but nothing came of it. Auto opt in is a deceitful practice that of all ethical organizations Consumer should not be guilty of using.

It would have been in the terms you signed up to. Most businesses do this, especially subscription based ones, such as internet services. Although I haven't found this with most NZ magazines. It is very easy to get out of, you just contact them to cancel, and make sure you keep a record of this and get them to send you a cancellation confirmation.
